I'm going to post what I said on RPG.net. Spoiler tagged for Steve.
I found this episode so horifying, it affected my enjoyment. I don't care how stupid the Pinkie's were, they were capable of thought. Twilight's spell distorts the body in horrible torture before utterly destroying it and trapping your essence in a pool were you must scream. And she can do this to anypony. Not to mention that I don't think anyone could completely reliably avoid all those distractions, real or not. The orangeanimals were just the icing on the cake. And yeah, how they were created is irrelevant! They're magical copies and developmentally disabled, practically todlers, but they can think! We know this because we've seen them make decisions!
I don't think Steve can make t much darker than it looked to me!

Muahahaha.

@Sereg: I guess I work too much with clones then :V I'm used to clones of varying levels of completeness, although to be fair any clone with sufficent autonomy is automatically considered their own person by my standards. The Pinkie clones I saw in the episode were nowhere near a complete clone, showing not only no memory retention from the original, but also exhibiting no drives beyond the basic need for fun imparted on them by the reflection effect, and incapable of making decisions in a self-aware fashion or displaying any kind of empathy.Even a rudimentary combat sim clone "bot" image can actually make more decisions than simply engaging in battle, ranging from peacekeeping to individual-level strategic/tactical computations, as well as hostage-situation diplomacies, at least on an entry level (and most such bots are networked so they can consult the server/commander for input if they don't know what to do). The Pinkie reflections as seen in the episode never exhibit this level of sophisticated decision-making, as their thought/logic process loops back to "having fun" in a manner similar to a punch-card robot or golem, without any consideration for others (external input). They never show fear. They never tire. And they will never stop - until they've had fun.I'm jelly now

Yeah, Tales of the Abyss has really shaped my view on copies, even- well, especially copies that are born with no memories. It's like they're infantas, with no memories or skills. Honestly, they're lucky they knew how to walk.

@Ace: I have a Masters in Genetics. Creating clones is completely standard for me. Though I admit that that was normally bacteria and plasmids and stuff.
Anyway, I don't care that they had no memories or ethics. They were children! They had greater senses of autonomy than infants! Twilight just mass murdered a bunch of babies! Or worse! And did it in a horrible way!

Also the clones exhibit a lack of solidity even Pinkie doesn't possess, suggesting that they're not of normal flesh and bone.

They could be made out of Gak for all I care. They're still alive. Were alive, anyway.

@Ace: I don't care if they're made of sentient goo, gas, data, liquid, flesh, plants, rock, metal, ethearal plasma, ectoplasm, etc. It shouldn't make a difference. They were sapient individuals and deserved all the rights of anypony.
EDIT:Completely agree!

Is it just me, or does the mirror pool exaggerate your personality? Like, the Pinkie doubles were even more childish and loopy than the real Pinkie.
Imagine if Discord discovered the pool.....

@Purple Dalek: It's either flanderisation or based on the reason for using the pool. Not enough data to be sure.

I think it's that the copies minds sort of start with a blank slate, but with a version of whatever purpose the seeker wanted a copy of herself for imprinted on their mind. Everything else (names, social skills, boundaries) would have to be taught.

I thought the closes were locked in the mood that the original felt at the time.
If pinkie used it to fill a big order we would have a bunch of workaholic pinkies

I imagine that a single clone could eventually be taught to be an ordinary pony. Though, I wonder how that one would feel, being eternally compared to her original. Even her cutie mark may one day not truly represent her, if she were to diverge enough... Great. Now I want to draw a Pinkie Replica, not to be confused with a Pinkie Replica.
Random grimdark thought: One of the Pinkies was a Changeling who chose the worst possible day to try and use Pinkie's shape to get some love

I think it's based on what the clone was made for as well.
Also, did anyone think it was weird that the moral is sometimes you have to choose between your friends and yet it showed Pinkie making it to everything?
#305173EnlongSun, 18th Nov '12 2:05:45 AMfrom The Magitek Holyland
Did it?
She only made it to everything as a swarm of clones that wrecked everything. And at the end, we only really saw her helping with the barn-raising, and then taking a big nap when given some other choices.

At the end she was hanging out with Rainbow, AJ and Twilight at different places.
