You know, for me a really horrifying questions just popped:
The banishment spell:Does it work on anyone at all, or only anyone who ever used the cloning pond?
Even if it's the second, the book with the spell had an author who must have known
through experiment that the spell also affects the originals.
quite aside from the whole "murdering a mentally disabled clone is still murder" thing.

Hey, at least I didn't suggest she screamed, too.

-Bucks Veni- Ok, you're done.
Yeah, Andromeda is heading for you. You got over 9000 years until it collides.

I just see it as returning the clones to their respective mirror universes by filling the vacancy they left there. The real Pinkie getting zapped would have sent her back in the place of a clone, and the last clone wouldn't be able to be sent back because its vacancy had been filled. Then the ponies would embark on a multiverse-spanning quest to find their Pinkie.

I don't think I'd go as far as postulating an alternate universe, but yeah, I think it's less "obliterating the clones" and more "sending them back to their place". Also, my headcanon is that the person who wrote the book is a troll and the spell doesn't actually effect the original.

...and since they were created by the pool, they technically are nothing but water.
But Twilight was worried about accidentally zapping the real Pinkie.

I kinda actually see parallel universes being implied by the fact that we see the creation of the first clone from the perspective of said clone. It climbed through the pool from somewhere...

I just modified my script so I can add multiple quotes per post. Hopefully I won't accidently double post as much anymore.

Also, I hear there's a song in the new episode
Life is simple: it has no nontrivial normal subgroups.

Colin was expecting the pool to cause each clone to be more imperfect than the last. He describe the clone splitting ring from Xoulin Showdown or something.
Yeah, Andromeda is heading for you. You got over 9000 years until it collides.

So, kinda a random and unlikely thought, but what if the hidden book in the library is actually this episode's contribution to the story arc? Whoever built the place must have studied a lot of dangerous things if information on them was deemed unsafe to be public knowledge, and now Twilight has access to all of that.

Yeah, something weird about that book.
Celestia hid it there, waiting to see when Twilight would find it

No, it's where the last librarian stashed their porn.
Oh and this magic book. With suspiciously sticky pages.

Here's my guess about the book. A pony found the pool and did some studies about it. He or she found out how dangerous the effects of the pool can get. They wrote the book with the knowledge of pool and how to stop its effects. However, that pony didn't want anyone getting their hooves on that piece of knowledge and hid it away. If, in the off chance, the pool was used, that pony could recall the information at a moments notice.
However, I don't know why Pinkie knew about the pool in the first place.

and he just happened to have information on a pool that makes duplicates....hmmmmmmmmm

every episode this season will have a strange book show up at some point

Pinkie knew it because her granny told her the legend once.

Yes, this will be this season's equivalent to "Time for plan B!"

@Enlong: Did she say that? Colin and I can't recall that part.
However, if my hypothesis is true and Granny Pie did teach Pinkie about the pool... Does that mean Granny Pie studied the pool?

Well, she says "Nanna Pinkie" this time, but I'm assuming they refer to the same relative.

#305098Perpetual LurkerSat, 17th Nov '12 9:08:46 PM
Nana Pinkie and Granny Pie could be different grandparents of separate sides of the family. Regardless, it means that Pinkie is named after one or both of her Grandmothers, which is just sweet.
#305099Orion AuroraSat, 17th Nov '12 9:08:56 PMfrom Andromeda Galaxy
@Enlong: Thanks. I should talk to Nanny Pinkie the next time I get the chance.
