@David: Hate the term, or when people use in their works?
Yeah, Andromeda is heading for you. You got over 9000 years until it collides.

[up] As in people abusing the term left and right, forgetting what it originally means.

To the point of calling characters you don't like one, simply because that the worst thing you can call them.

And I notice Twilight been getting accused of this lately.

@ Japanese Teeth She said muffin.

True. Although even then it's uncertain that it was actually her. Might as well be, though.

And now I must be off. I won't be around for a few days, as I have a kayak competition tomorrow and a test on monday (avoid my mistakes and write down important dates, otherwise this kind of pileup will hit hard). Goodbye.
Oh, the thread? Don't worry, it's just dead.

Pinkie's morals seem to fit her level of maturity. Taking care of babies is a job that requires maturity, sometimes others need some space and time alone even though they enjoy your company, people can not want to spend all their time with you but that doesn't mean they're not your friends, others see things differently than you.

It's the lessons one would teach a child/filly.

Twilight Sparkle, on the other hoof, would most likely not receive a moral emphasizing the importance of responsibility. Twilight would more likely receive a moral about the importance of delegating responsibility to others.

Why, show, why?

Why must you deconstruct these characters, and analyze their flaws?

@ATC: Because it would be boring if they didn't. What's the point of having such a well-rounded cast if you aren't going to do anything with it?

Yeah, I can't say I understand your point, ATC. Why shouldn't they be deconstructed?

Post of the Day #197

On the subject of Luna, I'm just gonna toss this theory in here:

An outside force (maybe Discord) gave her the idea that night wasn't as appreciated as day, and that slowly caused her to become Nightmare Moon. Luna's not entirely at fault, since she would've noticed eventually, but the suggestion sped up the process. @Chada Hasbro doesn't have a large enough bank to hold all the money.
Life is simple: it has no nontrivial normal subgroups.

Well, we get to see how Pinkie's antics can be unintentionally harmful, how Applejack's work ethic can be self-destructive, how Rainbow Dash's pride and fear of failure can hold her back, how Twilight's neuroses can get the better of her, how Fluttershy's timid nature can allow others to take advantage of her, and how Rarity's need for neatness and refined sensibilities can drive a wedge between her and her sister.

Do we get to see the positive aspects of these ponies? We are shown how virtues can be vices, how the ponies deal with their flaws; but have we seen how they deal with success? Have we seen any cases where Pinkie's wierdness, Rarity's Super OCD, Fluttershy's submissive nature, Rainbow Dash's drive to succeed, Applejack's work ethic, and/or Twilight's over-organized, obsessive nature turned out to be the good things that saved the day?

We've seen how they react when their usual M.O.s don't work, but have we seen what happens when they do?

Yeah, Twi can go over the top in her organization, but WWU showed how that can be beneficial when she's in the zone.

Uh, I'm pretty sure all of the positive aspects of their abilities have come up over the course of the show.

  • Twilight has Winter Wrap Up

  • Rarity has A Dog and Pony Show and Suited for Success

  • Fluttershy has Stare Master

  • Applejack has pretty much every episode aside from the ones centered around her (seriously, unless the episode is about one of her flaws, she's usually the most solid character, and even in her own episodes, the town basically reveres her; the fact that she screwed up in Applebuck Season and The Last Roundup are exceptions.)

  • Rainbow Dash has Sonic Rainboom and Hurricane Fluttershy

  • Pinkie has Swarm of the Century and Feeling Pinkie Keen.

Basically, the show does have lots of places where it shows the ponies at the top of their game, it's just that the plots are usually centered around character flaws. Which makes sense given that the show is intended to teach kids to deal with those flaws.

@Pykrete: Oh wow, they were using raw XML for the whole app? No wonder it's so multi-platform, lol.

...Say, since it's all XML, why don't someone gut the code and stuff it in a flash/html5 container for use in standard browsers?

Re: cutie mark on cheek: I think that's supposed to be a tattoo, because Astalakio's depiction of Twilight in that same style doesn't have any mark on her face.

Also, Twidash.
That would be running a punchline into the ground.
