Pre-part 2 speculation. I am 85% sure that Cadence's butt-tattoo is the actual Crystal Heart. Which Twilight would have known if the last page weren't missing.

Also, why couldn't probably-Sombra-but-possibly-someone-else just destroy the whole book instead?

Also also, it's kind of nice to see that the Elements of Harmony are conspicuously absent. So far.

You'd think someone with both 1) the power to give everyone amnesia and 2) access to the history books would 3) just take the whole thing so that there's no possible way to 4) fill the gap in the cystal ponies' collective memory.

Perhaps he didn't want ponies to get suspicious that the book was missing, and start researching it themselves? A missing page requires people to look in the book carefully to find out, a missing book is more obvious.

The Librarian didn't remember that she worked at the library, and Sombra's decor plan was 'evil crystals everywhere'. I'm pretty sure subtlety wasn't high on his list of criteria.

Yeah, especially with crystals manifesting from the literal shadows cast by the things he managed to corrupt. That was actually pretty cool.

Anyway, I'm more concerned with that book Luna had.
