Till we get more evidence about the true nature of Alicorns, my headcannon is that Cadance isn't a true Alicorn, just a winged unicorn. The difference is Alicorn's are near godlike creatures that per WOG are a perfect mixture of all three pony races, where as winged unicorns are simply a very very rare though not unheard of genetic anomaly that causes a pony to be born with both wings and a horn, but nothing else special, they aren't anymore powerful then an average unicorn, or longer lived, they just have both. But since they resemble the Princess and are so rare they are immediately upon birth granted the honorary title of "princess" and their family is considered to be an extended part of the Royal family, getting high fame, wealth station, all that comes with basically becoming instant nobility.

For all we know Cadance might not even have any pegasus traits pat the wings, she could lack the pegasus weather control magic because her innate magic is unicorn in nature. TL;DR Cadance=unicorn with wings, Alicorn=completel blend of Earth Pony, unicorn, and pegasus

Personally, it's more the dividing difference between True Alicorns and common Winged Pegasi, in that Alicorns are tougher because they have the strength of Earth Ponies to match the flight of pegasi and magic of unicorns.

Besides if Cadence had Earth Pony stamina, she'd be too much for Shiny to handle

I don't know, I'd say that what Cadance did to Shining Armor's shield spell was more powerful than anything even Twilight has ever done. Think about it. If love can amplify magic to extremes, and she can amplify love itself, that makes her immensely powerful, but only indirectly. In video game terms, she's a Game Breaker Support Character. Also, note that she's already larger in stature than any non-alicorn mare shown in the show thus far, being about the same height as Shining Armor.

Fleur was about the same height I beleive. And yeah not saying cadance isn't powerful in her own right, but I'd say it's just that she happens to have such powerful magic as love as her talent, and be a winged-unicorn, not that one caused the other.

well if my theory on cadance is right then yeah totally good title for that type, but for the Royal Sisters doesn't work because it fails to address that they have earth pony as well as pegasus and unicorn in them.

To be fair, "alicorn" is just a corrupted portmanteau of the french words for "wing" and "horn", so it doesn't do much better.

Or, better yet, "Unigus."

@Story: I just lucked out. I'm pretty sure that 90% of the work on that page was done by myself and maybe 2-3 other people, all of whom frequent the fanfic thread anyway.

no, jus that she's called princess and called Celestia's neice. All of that could be honorary, or like Blueblood the relationship is several generations removed.

Headcanon is that Cadance is the reincarnation of that alicorn from the love poison story. With some unknown alicorns in between.

All we know is she WILL, not how, so it could be she's a descended meant to rule it, or she just ends up getting to be the pony in charge of it for no reason beyond "Celestia said so."

I have been thinking to buy a merchandise, but I just find them too ugly to worth my money. The ponies in the show are definitely adorable, but in my eyes, those form do not translate well into merchandise. :/

They look decent if you take the time to customize the hair.◊

If you don't have time for that, go for the blind bags or look up the Mcdonalds toys on ebay. Both of those are more show accurate. Or if you have extra, spring for a t-shirt.
