Rainbow Dash is really kinda neutral in that episode; I get the idea that she probably does something like this every year and she wasn't legitimately scaring anyone anyway. She startled a lot of ponies, but other than that one incident with Pinkie (which doesn't count because Pinkie was just acting anyway), I don't recall her pranks ever messing Luna up. I don't think she was necessarily portrayed as wrong either, just that after a night of her pranking everypony it was satisfying to see the tables turn.

As for Pinkie, she did cause trouble for Luna, but she has the excuse of being utterly unaware that Luna wasn't trying to be scary. As far as she knew, pretending to be scared was exactly what Luna wanted her to be doing.

Pinkie wasn't doing it to hurt Luna she legitimately thought it's what Luna wanted and was trying for. And RD was just being a prankster, not scarring ponies, just startling them.

It still seems kind of weird that the one character who was doing the thing that ended being the solution for most of the episode was berated, and then at the end she "got a taste of her own medicine". It ended up being more headscratching then satisfying to me, and actually feels like her character was wasted in that episode.

Rainbow got cursed to a season of bad luck. Hence everything out to get her in season 2.

She wasn't berated for doing that all night, all she got was a quick WTF for doing it at just the wrong time, nothing said what she was doing was wrong, she just had bad timing with the one behind Luna. Luna doing it to her was just getting even. It was never made out to be more then a little harmless fun.

It's fine in isolation, but feels a little meanspirited given that Pinkie got off scot free.

That neglects the first time she pranks ponies in the episode where Twilight calls her out and she apparently causes Spike to chok on candy? It didn't seem like the episode wanted us to like RD for what she was doing.

The fact that the episode ends with everybody laughing at Rainbow (while as said Pinkie gets no such comeuppance despite doing worse) kinda implies to me she's meant to be in the wrong.

And I've updated my liveblog with the next three chapters of The Unexpected Love Life of Dusk Shine. During the sleepover episode, Rarity tries to get in Dusk Shine's metaphorical pants. Again.

Next update will probably be chapter 25 of Fallout: Equestria. It also occurs to me that I never really bothered to continue with Romance Reports after chapter 8 was complete shit.

I finally managed to convince my sister that I wasn't kidding about being a fan of MLP. Then we sat down and watched The Ticket Master.

She thought it was really cute, and wants to show it to some friends at work.
