@Seraphem: I do have an issue with the end of that episode, but not for that reason. My main problem is that the conflict in the episode is that everypony is scared of Luna, so the solution is for her...to intentionally act scary because that's what they wanted all along. Even though they were genuinely terrified of her earlier. I'm still not sure exactly how that worked. I mean, for the foals I can get that they were just playing the part, but all the adults who were legitimately panicking sure weren't.

It doesn't matter what the adults think as long as the kids are having fun?

Yeah, probably not what they were going for, but it's what they put forth.

I addressed fluttershy in the post, and yeah the kids were just playing along and having fun, not really scared of her. The adults, terrified.

Though if you want to stretch it a bit, could say that knowing the kids weren't really terrified of her or think of her as a monster, simply playing along with the holiday and having fun, thinking she was in on it, helped her to mellow out enough that she stopped the behavior that was scaring the adults. I mean she thought that the ponies were scared of her, just because she was her, which was how the kids were acting, seeing that they just thought she was playing into the holiday and didn't really feel that way was the big relief. The adults were just scared of the way she was acting, not scared just because they thought she was NMM, and once twilight made her see that, boom both issues solved.

really just a whole confluence of misunderstandings, with the one that was really hurting her being the kids seemingly scared of her just becuase she's her. Leanring that they weren't helped her see that the adults weren't really scared of her being NMM, just of her being loud, over the top, and bringing spiders to life. Agreed that it could have used a better wrap up and ending, but time limits and all.

@seraphem: That really doesn't solve both issues. The kids may no longer be scared of her, but the doesn't change the fact that the primary impression the adults got was a Princess who is prone to anger and is significantly more demanding then the Princess they are used to. They have every reason to continue to fear her even if she gets along well with the kids now.

Still seems weird to me. I mean, when you're problem is that you're unintentionally scaring people, it seems like intentionally acting scary is pretty much the worst thing you could do.

Actually around the middle of the episode they were getting calmer around her; it was only after she did that "Ungrateful whelp" bit with the lightning (plus the spiders) that everyone freaked out and the episode reset in attitude.

Ponies panic easily, apparently.

The other problem with Luna Eclipsed was that Pinkie's a Karma Houdini.

That's a pretty big thing to assume just happened.

No more so then humans really (or at least cartoon humans).

One of the thing that annoys me most about Luna Eclipsed is that Rainbow making ponies scared is wrong while Luna making ponies scared is right. That's even setting aside the fact that Pinkie's making ponies scared at the detriment of Luna's happiness is also portrayed as right.
