If I were to make a spinoff or reboot to the show, it would basically be the same thing as an episodic series in a modernized Ponyville (the modernization, of course, would never be much more than a minor detail) with more character development and story arcs. There would be some more refined jokes and the characters would be Genre Savvy at some points, and Wrong Genre Savvy at others.

Well, the characters would noticeably change, especially Shy, who vowed to be more assertive in one episode and ended up carrying a massive load while Pinkie carried balloons in the next episode under mild pressure from Pinkie.

Not saying that they would change entirely, it's just that they wouldn't be as blatantly flat.

I'm sure Fluttershy wanted to help carry party supplies. She just didn't expect an oblivious Pinkie to pile that much on her. Note that when she's prodded to do something she doesn't want to do (watch the dragons migrate), she quite firmly asserts herself.

Also, did you seriously just call th characters in this show blatantly flat, Gex? You do realize that the primary reason we watch the show is because the characters aren't flat?

@Kyler Compare her reaction in Dragonshy to Dragon Quest. She used to just lock up and do nothing when scared. In Dragon Quest, she said no, was still pushed to come anyway, and reiterated that she said no, echoing the resolution of Putting Your Hoof Down.

Heck, look at Hurricane Fluttershy. She was extremely scared then, but she still tried. She wasn't stubborn at all after Dash initially talked to her.

My version of My Little Pony?

I would probably do something involving the future offspring of the Mane Six, and purposely avoid or even invert the Generation Xerox trope and make at least some of the foals be very different from their parents, personality-wise.
I also like the idea of having a show that fleshes out some of the toyline-only ponies who don't get much fan attention.
I'd probably create characters from other areas of the pony world that have different accents, especially British Isles accents, and make characters who are a Stereotype Flip of some sort.
I'd probably have lots of rainbow motifs and use some Edible Theme Naming since I'm assuming I would be allowed to use Author Appeal and would probably give the ponies a wider range of body types, including some that are extremely tall/short/fat/thin who are MAIN characters and aren't just jokes because of their size.
