On Batponies I see them as having them given the wings and stuff by enchantments cast by Luna for joining her service.

His role is the navigator. He knows the stars very very well, and he can see perfectly in the dark.

He's also an aspiring knight and acrobat (geddit?).

I'd say she has an affinity for dark based magic but not that she controls darkness. Of course since she brings light via the moon and stars she could also have light based magic from that.

@Apple: Well, for the sake of the fic the story is... well, the fic is largely inspired by Bat Boy The Musical. It's also partly inspired by the Who's Eminince Front, but that's beside the point.

Basically, the guards we saw are the only two known of, and are for all intents and purposes a new species. They were found feral in Canterlot, where a scientist took them in to study them, discovered they were intelligent, and started educating them, a la Tarzan. They melded in with high scoiety for a while before being chased off, whereupon Luna took them in as her personal guards, chauffers, advisors and general go-to ponies.

The reason they were chased off by the gentry, by the by, is that they're omnivorous predators, alongside just generally having bad habits of being unsuspectingly spooky.

Your fanon is actually really cool, though, for the whole thing.

I suggest a simplified look. You'll draw faster, more often, and as you draw you will naturally improve, eventually evolving into a more detailed style. One of the absolute worst things fledgling artists can do is try to use to much detail. Every additional line you lay down on a drawing increases the chance that it will look wrong. Since you're just starting out, I think you should keep it very simple.

And simplified styles can still look really good.
