RE: Past sins being put to hardcover.

You know, the temptation to pull of a fifty shades of grey with The Colour You Bleed has crossed my mind more than once, and with all this it's getting more and more tempting every day. I mean really it's already so far removed from the setting that I'd just need to change the races(I even have the equivalent of The Five Races set up - Earth Pony's as The Stone Folk(stout), Pegasi as Angels(ironically High Men), and Unicorns as Third-Eyed men(Fair folk)) and take a bit more time to develop equestria and the idea of deities as physical patrons of the country to fill in the gaps that I let the show handle the first go around.

Oh sure, I'd have to work at it a bit, but if people can get by on publishing this malarky without ANY changes at all, then SURELY something I put myself into for three months could get legitimately published somewhere.

Didn't Past Sins get essentially rewritten half way through the series?

Also, 50's probably only popular because of the porn, and later the controversy.

Did it? I'm not really sure. I'd heard it underwent heavy edits, but I thought it was mostly just technical stuff.

I just take a bit of issue with the fact that people are able to make money off of unaltered fanfiction. Grey at least had the decency to change itself enough that it was effectively inspired by Twilight rather than wholly based on it. I honestly question whether putting FOE and PS to hardcover and selling them should even be LEGAL. FOE can get away with it, being OC only, but Past Sins uses the setting and characters of another work. I think someone should have something to say about the author making a profit off of that.

@kegi I'm fairly sure that these fanfic printings are sold at-cost. No one's making money off of them. And technically, no, it's not legal. It just probably costs Hasbro more to pay their lawyers to deal with it than it would to just ignore it.

I'm not even sure the authors are the ones doing this. I was under the impression that these were commissioned by fans of the series (not that that is really any better).

Mmm... fair enough, I guess. It still sort of irks me in a way, but I've been in a foul mood as of late so I suppose I'm probably just looking for something to take a swing at.

Yeah, I don't think anyone is stupid enough to try making money off of unaltered fanfiction.

Yeah, the books only got printed becuase enough people pooled their money together to get a bulk discount from a printing place, every book was sold at cost, no one except the printing house made money off it.

@Yeller: Doujinshi artists do a bit of that in Japan, but then again over there they treat it as marketing/advertising for the most part.

@Purple: Pretty much anything that's canon was commissioned by Hasbro or othe people who made the show. If a fanfic author got commissioned to write some Expanded Universe material, that would count as canon.

Hi guys!

Today was the club picking day at Uni. I couldn't help but notice that the table top gaming club had pony figurines at their booth. I asked why, and it turns out there is a semi hidden club in the Table top gaming club for bronies. They said there are alot of people who do table top games who are also into MLP. The figures were there to draw them out. Needless to say I joined up. I guess Bronies really are everywhere!

Have you guys seen this overlap too? Because thinking about it, I can see the overlap myself.
