That's pretty much how I see it. Fluttershy probably had a certain level of respect or admiration for RD, and RD cared about her enough to protect her from the bullies, but I don't think they went out of their way too hang out or anything. Sort of like how most people have a cluster of acquaintances that you get along well with and feel comfortable in their company, but you wouldn't go out of your way to spend time with them either.

It looks to me that their bond strengthened because of their schooldays memories.

The kind of friendship deal where you guys just hang out and realise suddenly that there's so much more in common y'all have than was expected, and become closer as a result.

So, I'm actually pretty psyched about this thing. At 144 pages and with a title like that, there's no way that it's just another coloring book. Anything containing either background setting information, concept art and production stories, or anything like that would be really cool. I love supplemental materials like that. I remember buying a sort of companion encyclopedia to Harry Potter that gave information on various terms, creatures, and people within the context of the Harry Potter universe, and I absolutely loved it.

What sucks, though, is that if it is information on the setting and such, it will undoubtedly spark arguments on how canon it is.

If it agrees with my headcanon it's as canon as the show. Otherwise it's as canon as those hilarious comics in the magazines.

Depends on which show bibles the source book draws from, I reckon it'll be quite canon indeed.

What I should like to see: geography and wildlife of Equestria, gossip and tidbits about our fave ponies, and world building, lots of it.

My take will probably be to just roll with it as long as it's consistent with the show. I'd have to see what kind of stuff it includes before I know how I feel about the rest of it.

I'm excited for that handbook as well. If it's what we think it is, more worldbuilding goodness for everyone! After all, the deepness of the setting is probably one of the reasons the show is a popular as it is.

I wanna see more lore on Hollow Shade. That little shadowy village on the map of Equestria definitely has a ghost story of some kind behind it.

I want something on Horseshoe Bay personally. Oh and Los Pegasus.

Vanhoover and Galloping Gorge need more mention too.

Really, every single location on that map as so much room for cool things. I'm partial to Tall Tales myself. The current plot summary for the season 3 opener even places the newly appeared Crystal Empire in the Frozen North beyond the Crystal Mountains.

So that gives Cadence's cutie mark possible historical significance? Like, say, proving her birthright to claim the Crystal Kingdom throne?

Mostly I'm expecting her to have an epic honeymoon battling some villain to claim her rightful throne.

Something else of importance that people don't seem to be talking about is the implications of the place being referred to as both the Crystal Empire and the Crystal Kingdom. I'm betting that it's going to be The Empire under the rule of a villain, and becomes a kingdom again after he is defeated.

Maybe Cadance is in exile or something, and now she's going to reclaim it.

@JT: I figure she's the descendant of the Royals from there, so she has a reason to go back and fight to reclaim the throne.

I wouldn't be surprised if Galloping Gorge comes up in season 3, since it was mentioned by The Hub a couple of times and it seems to be on the way to the Crystal Mountains in the Frozen North where the Crystal Empire's going to appear. As for whether that'll stay an empire or become a kingdom, my guess is that it'll stay an empire, given that Hasbro's toys (and Pony Wedding microsite) only use "Crystal Empire" (this is a Merchandise-Driven show, after all).

And yeah, I'm definitely curious to see what that handbook's about. In the meantime, the magazines keep on coming (this time with Luna)◊

Not exactly. If the Crystal Empire just appears out of nowhere, and Cadance is in exile from it, then it would have had to have disappeared rather recently, which seems unlikely.
