@Keg: It's basically one of those terribly half-assed European comics written by somebody who's only seen like 2 episodes of the show. Random disasters start happening in Ponyville and Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy save the day. It's kind of hilarious in how absurd it is.

EDIT: Time to post this again!

Was 20.5 included in the hardcover copies?

Anyway, the neat thing about a crossover with Rincewind is that it's perfectly fitting with canon. Rincewind's already been to, among other things, the beginning of the universe, the end of the universe, hell, over the edge of the world, Death's house, and even the real world (or some passable AU at least). Equestria fits right in.

@kegi UK Pony Magazine story

I strangely enjoyed Apple Bloom's name change and lightning hitting Applejack's barn on a clear day.

Think the Magic Plant was some Poison Joke Variant?

Hey, how much does a Princess Celestia figure cost? I'm assuming around £7?

Doubtful. The standard ones are about £5. I saw a big Cadance for about £30 so in that area I'd say.

I hope she doesn't read it. I doubt she would appreciate the treatment of the setting.

Or of her character becoming an Orwellian propagandist and dying excruciatingly in caustic gas that fused her body into a window. tongue

Anyone here know what's up with this thread? It's kinda creeping me out.

A good writer puts in a lot of details in there story. But a great one gets a story from a single detail.

[up][up]Yeah, that really angered me when I first read it. In what reality does the Bearer of the Element of Generosity not only condone but order book burning.

@ Japanese Teeth: I sorta agree on that. While RD wouldn't be the same if she wasn't abrasive and arrogant, I like moments they show she has actual competence in what she does, rather than always having to be kept in line by the other five. She does seem the nearest to being a straight played Jerkass at times, or at least the one whose defining traits are played more often negatively than positively.

[up][up]I still don't understand why people are ok with half of the actions the Eo H under take in that series.

Yes, the mane 6 were horribly OOC in FOE, but the story provided, at least what I felt to be, a good reason for this, because they were separated. We already know from the show that at least Pinkie and Twi can and will go crazy without their friends around to balance them out.

I didn't think it was too much of a stretch.

and only Rarity's hoof was fused to the window!

@Blissey: The story makes a lot of assumptions that I don't think work. One is that the Mane Six are well know through Equestria (which they aren't), two is that they were well qualified to fight a war or run government organizations (which they weren't), and three is that they would be so caught up in the workings that they would forget their friendships (which I don't think they would). That's not even getting into what Celestai and Luna did.

The story asked me to accept a lot of things that I simply could not. If the backstory had somehow taken place say hundreds of years after the Mane Six had died I would have found it easier to swallow (but still difficult).

@Psi: That's exactly it. I think they're aiming for Jerk with a Heart of Gold, but sometimes they lean on the Jerk side a little too much.

@Blissey: Even if it makes sense in the context of the story, it still deviates from canon too much for my liking. If stuff like the think Perpetual mentioned happen, it just doesn't feel like I'm reading about the same characters, and given that the characters are what draw me most to the show in the first place, it just doesn't work.

[up]Also this. The stuff might very well have made sense in the story, but I'm the kind of guy who likes his fanfic as close to canon as possible, and FE just changed too much about the setting and characters for me to really enjoy it. I was too busy going "But the Rarity/Pinkie/Twilight/whoever from the show wouldn't do that!"

Like Velvet Remedy, I found Fluttershy admirable (well, to a lesser extent all the Mane Six as well) in FOE. Some people may find that strange. Some people believe that the ends justify the means. I've always believed the opposite. The end is justified by the means.

two is that they were well qualified to fight a war or run government organizations (which they weren't)

just a small point, but the story didn't make that assumption, Luna did. and it's true, they weren't qualified, thus the apocalypse.

in other news, this animation is freakin awesome
