I was just thinking last night about who would take whose place if you switched out the cast of G1 Pokemon with ponies...

I figured:

Oak: Dr. Whooves ('cuz he's a doctor?)
Brock: Pinkie (grew up on a rock farm)
Misty: Rainbow (tomboy)
Surge: AJ (powerhouse)
Erika: Fluttershy (durr)
Koga: Trixie (all smoke and mirrors)
(Sabrina: Twilight (intellectual->psychic)
Blaine: Derpy (Just 'cuz)
Giovanni: Discord (the villain)
Lorelei:
Bruno:
Agatha:
Lance: Spike (DARGONS!)
Rival:

It does make sense that a kind of duck lily thing would hang out with Pinkie. She'd treat it as this totally normal and expected thing.
