Huh, that certainly puts a new spin on things. Having the Crystal Empire suddenly appear out of nowhere it certainly a good explanation for why it hasn't been seen or mentioned until now. So, was this magical protection provided by the Crystal Heart something that literally phased the Empire out of existence? If so, that's pretty damn cool.

Also something of note: The Crystal Heart appears to be an important MacGuffin here, and Cadance's cutie mark is, well, a crystal heart. Probably some connection there.
