Not all women athletes tie their hair back, but many probably do, so that's where it comes from?

Because of a trend of tying your hair in a ponytail when you do activities with lots of movement so you don't get stray hairs in your face.
If you have some liniment, I'll put it on my dignity.

But if you're a fulltime athelete, wouldn't it be easier to just cut it short?

Probably, but maybe some just really like their hair. If there is one thing humanity is good at, it's being totally irrational on the practicality to vanity ratio.

What Kyler said, basically. Having lots of hair is kind of annoying when it can get in your face so a lot of female athletes either cut it short or, if they don't want to be stuck with short hair when they aren't actively participating in sporting events, tie it back. If Dash doesn't want hair in her eyes when shes making a cyclone or whatever, it makes sense that she'd tie back her mane or cut it to the point where it wouldn't be an issue.

[up]Tying one's hair back isn't really any more impractical then taking the time to get it cut. It's like an extra minute tops. Not to mention that a lot of athletes aren't exactly what we'd call "full time".

@Ace: That's awesome.

Cynical reasoning: Rainbow Dash can't have a short mane because then there'd be nothing to brush on the dolls.

I reckon Dashie keeps her mane reasonably long because one of her idols keeps their mane the same way :3

Why does Gilda get frickin' laser beams?

Actually, never mind. More Dakka is still awesome.

@ Kyler: Cause she's a Griffin that shoots laser beams when she roars.

Those other times she roared shot invisible laser beams.

Or cut and steam it. Remember the Winter Wrap Up Twilight thing?

Going back to the wrestling discussion.

Wrestling can count as pretty classy, what with middle ages French and English noblemen often having a match. If I remember correctly, there is even an incident where Henry VIII having a wrestling match with a king of France.

That said,

Octavia: "A proper pony..." [delivers a swift hoof-strike to the back the the second changeling's head, knocking it out] "...finishes things quickly and cleanly. No need to roll around in the dirt."

Awesome.

I'll take down with a flying elbow out while she's reading about wrestling theory.

So basically pankration, eh? You better finish her off quick. Otherwise flying elbow can be very easily and devastatingly countered with an uppercut. tongue

I find it amusing that most fanfic depictions of the Stare make it a sort of toned down Penance Stare that inflicts guilt instead of pain for all the bad things you've done in your life.

Mayhap her parents come from Hollow Shade and the Headless Horse is her ancestor?
