Yeah, but there's no reason to believe that magic would influence sexual orientation. Just because the ponies have magic doesn't mean that they're more likely to be bisexual.

@Seraphem: That's not even what he said; he said that he personally finds it more likely that RD would be interested in mares. He admits that it's just his take on it

[up][up] I'm just sayin', trying to talk about realism when people can teleport or shoot fireballs is a doomed endeavour.

Plus, y'know, magical lesbian babies are in Ask Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie and thus totally relevant.

I said this before, but at first RD's gender was pretty clear to me. Later, though, it got more unclear to me. :/

Now Scootaloo on the other hand, if no one told me, I would have definitely figured that it was a stallion.

Still gonna be hard to beat The Great And Powerful Trixie Falls In Love With A Pine Cone.

There's nothing more gripping than the fanfic Airshipping.

On the other hand magic can be influenced by emotion. I don't want to be anywhere near Twilight when she's in heat.

@Count: The thing is we can make the comparison because we've seen enough of Ponyville to be able to tell that it's similar to Real Life. But yeah, it's definitely up to interpretation. It's not like we're ever going to get any hard and fast info on sexual demographics in Ponyville. I just find it easiest to assume that it's similar to real life because there's no real reason to think otherwise.

[down]I try to only bring realism up when I feel like the show has demonstrated a particular aspect to be similar to reality. If we don't have that info, all bets are off. tongue

@D Roy: Weirdly enough, Scootaloo never really confused me much.

[up][up] I can just imagine the explosions.

Still safer than giving Pinkie explosives.

[up] Eh, whatever floats your boat.

I honestly don't care which, I just don't like people arguing from "realism" in a context which has very little in common with reality. I got enough of that from /tg/.

Why is it that my own interpretations of things are always countered by "Magic exists, you can't assume anything!" around here? If I wasn't able to assume things, then my headcanon would be incredibly sparse. tongue

Great, now I'm thinking about Rarity PMSing. And this conversation has hit its nadir.

All this talk of comptetiveness in a romantic situation is making me think of Shizune.

I'm pretty sure the thread's nadir was back in July.

[up] Run and don't look back. It's too late for me but you can save yourself!

@Story: I said conversation, not thread.

@Count Dorku: Drama happened. I'll PM you the explanation because we like to keep this stuff out of the thread. Also:

@story: The only Shizune I know is from Naruto, and I'm fairly certain that's not who you meant...

re: RD's sexuality again: I should probably also qualify my arguments by clarifying that I don't subscribe to clear cut straight/gay/bi labels except out of convenience (for example, when trying to maintain syntax in rhyming couplets :P). So when I called Rainbow a lesbian earlier, I didn't mean to preclude that she would have no interest whatsoever in stallions, only that her personality makes her more compatible with mares.

@Purple: Clip-ons.

@ Lurker, i think what touched off the whole magic thing was you using the word 'realism' though I agree that just using the Joe Quesada approach is wrong, just because there is magic doesn't mean it doesn't obey rules.

As much fun as it is to make everything rhyme, I find that it's hard and takes far too much time.

I have always seen RD as straight. I've known tomboys like her, and 99% of the time, they are straight. As to her relationships, some stallions might indeed enjoy the challenge of her boldness and competitiveness. That old notion of the man being in charge is just redundant. So yeah, as others have said, she could end up in either a relationship with an equally competitive guy, or a super laid back guy. It would be cute if the guy was nerdy/'feminine' too, as in blue girl pink boy.

@Purple: Ties? Like neck ties? Well, we have them already knotted with the neck loop open. We slip the tie over our heads and once on our necks, we pull on the knot with our teeth.
