[up] This is story all about how my life got flipped, turned upside down. I'd like to take a minute, just sit right there, I'll tell you how I became the prince of a town called Bel-Mare. West Fillydelphia, born and raised, in the library was where I spent most of my days. Studying, chilling out, acting all cool, and I can't come up with anymore.

Note that Rainbow Dash needs to fly downwards and let gravity help accelerate her in order to acheive Sonic Rainboom speeds. Her regular, unaided flight speed is merely good, it's her acceleration and turning that makes her extra-swift.

Very good point @Ace! But even taking that into account, I can only cheat an extra 100 m/s (approximate maximum freeflying terminal velocity). With 1 Mach being around 320 m/s, I've got at least 200 m/s to account for.

I can't even cheat with pegasus weight, because less weight would decrease terminal velocity.

For comparison, 10-12 m/s is already as fast as the fastest human sprinter, and not even a quarterhorse can reach over 20 m/sec on foot (and that's a big stretch; ponies, especially Equestria ones would be closer to human speed or slower).

^She's magic? (I'm not kidding. Dash's talent appears to be the Rainboom, and more generally, speed - so maybe her innate pegasus magic is tuned more toward speed and maneuverability than others'.)

Can other Pegasi do tricks comparable to the Sonic Rainboom do you think?

Like I always thought the wonderbolts had specialized tricks too.

I was imagining that Big Mac episode as being more like those WB cartoons with that stupid baby that the dog had to protect all the time, except that Big Mac actually gets acknowledge at the end of the episode.

The one plot I want to see is Cheerilee getting indisposed for some reason, and Twilight trying to fill in for her.

I imagine other pegasi have their own individual talents, yeah, but they may not be as spectacular as the Sonic Rainboom.

[up][up][up]I hate those kind of plots. Can Big Mac do something else with CMC? (I kill anyone who mention here one fanfic).

Or maybe not CMC just one of them with Big Macintosh? Big Mac and Apple Bloom must have some screen time, they are brother and sister and allmost never interact in show.

[up]x6 How do the Wonderbolts do that stormcloud trail? Do they all have weather related cutie marks, or is it something built into their suits?

Probably built into their suits. In "Sonic Rainboom" while trying to rescue Rarity, they shoot downwards after her with no storm clouds visible.

Good point there on RD's speed.

One possibility is that Pegasi Natural Magic allows them to convert mana into extra speed, but it can be suppressed by mental/emotional blocks. Fluttershy seems to be somewhat scared of excessive flight, but her anger can help her disregard the usual mental block she has there.

[up], [up][up]: I always considered their flight to be their natural magic because such tiny wings can't generate enough lift on their own. It's a similar thing to the "too-small" wings on some of the more advanced suits of power armor I've seen, which conceal advanced tech hardware like antigrav generators, repulsors and stuff like that instead of being used for lift generation.

Hold on, does the Rarity's Secret app in "There's a Pony for that" count as a pretty cunning case of Getting Crap Past the Radar? I'm sorely tempted to edit it in. (Also, this gives my wild mass guess that ponies know about things like bits and bridles some serious proof)

[down] She was desperate enough to overcome her insecurities and just fly.

[up][up][up] What about when she saved Rarity? That was friendship.

...Or you could be cynical and say she wanted to save her childhood idols in an attempt to get noticed.

She represents the element of loyalty. She can't not try to save her friend!

I'm beginning to feel sorry for the wonderbolts. Now it looks like FLUTTERSHY is better than them as well. sad

I think that's part of it, yeah, Scarabs. I'm a proponent of the 'tactile telekinesis' theory that some people have put forth as to why pegasi can carry things like chariots and carts from just the front, without the whole back end falling backward; their magic naturally makes them lighter, as well, is my theory.

Dash was definitely trying to save everyone there. =)

[up][up]Why allways come up with such conclusions? FS is not better flyier than Wonder Bolts.

[up][up][up] Fluttershy is better than everyone.

Where did she get such flying skills? When she's a filly, she can't do much more than hover. But now she can carry a lot of weight (carrying the frog cart, for example), and she can move fast (with the balloon). I assume she picked up a few things from Rainbow Dash,

The Wonderbolts are professional aerobatics experts. They're probably hoofpicked for their superb flight control - more than mere speed. Fluttershy is definitely no aerobatician, while Rainbow Dash is clearly going to have a reasonable shot at joining them if she keeps improving her own aerobatics and flight reflexes, and learns to avoid crashing so much.

Fluttershy is probably physically stronger with higher BMI due to spending her time on the ground so much, because gravity trains your legs if you spend most of your time walking around instead of flying.

Yeah, My dad said something like: "No way a straight person can like MLP"
Point your Dad to this page and ask him how many of the folks featured (especially in the comments) are gay. Double-dog-dare him, even. Then start a fund for his inevitable get-well card. grin

And I like the CMC continually Comically Missing the Point. As long as they have episodes that show them doing stuff other than obsessing over their marks, I'm cool.
