If she wanted to take over the world, she should have just built a Weather Machine. Cause that always works, right?

What I'm saying here is, a weather machine could solve a lot of problems in Equestria.

Also, that's how I would try to take over the world, given the chance.

Did she ever even say that she was covering the whole world in night, or just Equestria?

Do we know that Nightmare Moon really did anything at all? Her "eternal night" didn't really seem to last all that long to me.

@Kevin The sun was supposed to rise the moment Celestia showed up at the Summer Sun Celebration. It was only delayed for a few hours, though.

Maybe she just constantly blocks out the sun with the moon? Every day is an Eclipse?

....Would that have any negative affects on the world?

Eternal Night wasn't long because her evil plan was foiled.

If that happened you'd see some sunlight from behind the moon.

Maybe she could change the relative distances to then sun and moon so that the full umbra would cover the entire planet.

Possibly. That would do one hell of a number on the tides, though. Not that she'd care.

Of course, that assumes that the moon influences the tides in the same way it does in real life...

Well, we know that gravity still works. Come on, you can always just say "well, duh, magic!" to every extrapolation of the laws of physics, but at least give me that gravity still works. [lol]

Gravity works yeah, it's just a question of whether the Equestrian moon has anywhere near the mass required to alter the tides in the same way. tongue

I'm assuming that it can't be anywhere near the size of the real moon, because if it was Luna's TK would be obscenely powerful.

[up]Or cheese.

Hopefully bodyswap would also let the voice actors have fun imitating each other or themselves.

I personally don't think that it's TK, exactly, just a very specific and incredibly powerful spell that sets the moon/sun on a set course. It took untold numbers of unicorns working together to cast it themselves, so the power of it has to be comparable.

Maybe TK is a wave and they used constructive interference.

That's still only additive growth, not exponential. Makes no difference whether it's constructive waves or simply adding force.

I find it awesome that we are having a physics discussion about magical ponies.

Well the ultimate laws of physics there is Cartoon Physics anyway. But tehy also have stuff that's more or less scientific.

Well, if the moon was made of candy, what kind of candy would it be? It would have a very different density and mass than the actual moon, and thus would have a different gravitational pull.

Besides, isn't the moon made of cheese?

[up][up] Of course the moon is made of cheese. Otherwise Wallace and Gromit wouldn't have gone to visit Luna.

The moon is made of rock ... rock candy.
