"Occasional knife fights..." Heh heh.

I've always wanted to be in a fight.

Ponies get in fights all the time, but...

Too bad they don't let girls in Fight Club.

Oh, shit, I just talked about it.

There's MLP Trouble (without the Flim Flam brothers), but that's probably because there was a G3 version of that...did they ever make pre-G4 MLP Monopoly?

That reminds me. I keep imagining a version of the Trouble song about bronies.

Trouble with a capital T and that rhymes with P and that stands for ponies.

@condo From what little I know of Fight Club, doesn't it actually have not much to do with fighting?

[up]Since when is saying you won't watch something complaining about it?

(In the strictest sense, I mean...)

Just give it a chance, man! All it needs is a chance! Didn't you take a chance on MLP?

[up]No, I removed every bit of risk involved before I tried watching it.tongue

But anyway, I suppose I can always do what I do when I'm curious about a show but don't especially want to watch it... To The Other Wiki!

Am I the only one who first watched MLP hoping and expecting to like it? I was actually disappointed and wrote it off, only to give it another try 3 or 4 months later.

I went into it with no real expectations, just to see what all the hype was about.

I came into it thinking there was a 50/50 chance of me liking it. Someone whose opinions I respect recommended the series to me, but I've also learned the hard way that there's no correlation whatsoever between popularity and quality.

[up][up]Same here. My basic view on it was basically "well, it must have some merit if it's this popular". I know popularity generally isn't a great indicator of quality, but given that it's My Little Pony I assumed that people wouldn't be making a big deal out of it unless there was a decent reason.

@Blue I wouldn't have spoiled myself if I was planning on watching it. Also, a spoiler was what got me to watch Madoka. Pretty sure I wouldn't have done it otherwise.

And there wasn't much of a logical connection between those sentences...

@condo I actually didn't know before reading the synopsis.tongue

Even though I was pretty aware of it's popularity (from Jew Wario of all people) I want in with pretty low expectations, so low in fact that I was hooked after just the pilot.tongue

Back when I was younger and dumber I used to be a big time anime snob. Then I watched Avatar The Last Airbender and was blown away, and it opened my mind to the possibilities of good western shows. I kept an eye out for more, and hoped that I would find another western show that I would enjoy...but nothing ever came. But when I heard people talking about how good MLP was, I thought "maybe this is finally it" and gave it a try.

@Crowlover: I understand. I fluctuate randomly from being a Spoiler Hound or running away from spoilers screaming. A lot of things I really enjoy I only grew interested in because of spoilers.

I came into it expecting it to be "okay" at best. I started with the pilot. I went a bit back and forth on how I felt about it while watching. The characters were solid and relatable, the animation was very nice, and I appreciated the self-conscious jabs it took at itself ("It'll grow back"/"So would the mustache", "Tell me she's not [singing]"/"She is", etc.), but I was finding it pretty predictable, there were some weak moments that turned me off (Applejack's trial in the forest was a bit of a stretch, really), and the whole "friendship is good!" message they were clearly building up to had been turning me off from the beginning... right up until it turned out that by "magic" they didn't mean phony everyday magic like a sunrise or a baby's smile. No, they meant friendship is frikken rainbow lasers.

And that was the precise moment at which my fate was sealed.

Anyway, I can't remember my expectations when watching it eaxctly. But the first time I tried to watch it, I accidently watched a G3 cartoon instead.
