@Zelda Videos: Is it weird that I knew those references? Ok, yeah, Colin did tell me all about them.tongue
Yeah, Andromeda is heading for you. You got over 9000 years until it collides.

There she be an episode with a moral about body image. The show is big on Girls Need Role Models, so it's possible, and I'm sure they could do it without being Anvilicious or going into Very Special Episode territory like these things usually go.

Are Very Special Episodes an inherently bad thing? I thought it was a neutral trope.

Anyway, a body image aesop would be good. Not sure which of the ponies would need to learn it though.

I don't know how they could handle it in a way that hasn't been done, especially with characters that all have the same body, but hey.

Pinkie gains a ton of weight and learns that its not that big a deal.

Of course thanks to status quo she ends up losing it all by the end of the episode anyway.

Tropes Are Not Bad, but sometimes, it can be better to avoid them.

I don't think this is a show that would hold up well under a Very Special Episode.

And "body image" doesn't have to be about weight. Like, you could be insecure about your looks or your hair or something, and learn not to worry and all that.

[up]What if the Very special episode revolves around avoiding strangers- No wait, Adventures of Sonic the hedgehog and Winnie the pooh allready screwed that up very badly. Never mind.tongue

Marsy, stop flirting with Orion!

Aesop Idea: Never play poker against dragons. They always cheat.

I think making it about weight would result in a Broken Aesop, cause Status Quo Is God and everything will be back to normal.

Like, maybe Twi is insecure about something, obsesses over it, learns her lesson.

Maybe the Very Special Episode could be about Aurora's pony AIDS.

But that would just be ridiculous.

But seriously, I'm starting to think that there's a real possibility that something like this could happen.

(The insecurity thing, not the AIDS thing.)

I have to agree that I think a Very Special Episode could get botched really easily. As noted, a body image storyline, at least one dealing with weight, wouldn't work very well considering the entire primary cast is pretty much identical. I think it would be much more likely to have somepony not like their mane or coat color or something.

Normally, a Very Special Episode happens in a show that doesn't normally have a moral-a-week format. This show does so it would simply be tacking a slightly more serious matter than normal rather than the easily fumbled format change that other works have to endure to do these kinds of things. These types of episodes also almost always happen due to executive/government mandate, which shouldn't be a problem now that the e/i bug is gone from the show. Basically, it wouldn't be that different than a normal episode if it did happen, and it's not likely to happen in the first place.

Or a character wishing they were born as a different pony race.

You know, the episode of Batman that was on yesterday was kind of Special. The got in a pretty awesome Take That at the political climate and LBJ in particular, and I was like, "Wow, it really is The Sixties!"

Mare Do Well ought to have run for mayor.

[up][up] I didn't mean you in particular. I'm just talking to everybody.

They should do a super cereal Very Special Episode about something only applicable to pony land.

[up][up]Oh, yeah. Forgot about that.

Watch out for the hot sauce.

[up] A Space Whale Aesop could be pulled off in a funny way. You know, "Snow goons are bad news."

Yeah, I think the main problem with a VSE is that if they tried too hard to bring a real world problem into the spotlight, it wouldn't really fit into the established universe well. I mean, I can't really see them doing an episode on say, drug addiction without either derailing the consistency of the setting or making it come across as a spoof of Very Special Episode type things rather than playing it straight.

[up]They pretty much already did that in "Cutie Mark Chronicles", although it's not quite as blatant as snow goons.

I got an awesome new avatar.

Wouldn't a purple Dalek be more Twilight than Pinkie?

Sticky plaster?

Britspeak for bandaids, I presume. And Twilight freaked out over the cut because Future Twilight had it too, not because it was a big injury.
