I'm surprised noone's reposted Spies In The Night yet.

Don't worry, we just need some duct tape to fix them.

Duct tape covers all sins.

I love the pince-nez. Gonna get me some one a these days. (Plus, a r63 Fluttershy in the background.)

@Con: The first two were goofy enough that I actually enjoyed them. After that they just got dumb. But yeah, we need a ponified version.

So a friend of mine and I have been working on a MLP-ish shoot-em-up game for the past few months, with her handling the programming and half of the spritework and other graphics, and myself working on the other half of the visual art duties. With the game mostly-probably-nearly complete, she's decided to release a demo, which you can find in this post!

http://renaturnip.deviantart.com/#/d5bmxss

Or the direct download here, if you are allergic to deviantArt:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/xqaivdv4b2vdr06/finaldayariademo2.rar

Any and all feedback would be very much appreciated! Please, enjoy.

Edit: The file posted is a .rar, a compressed folder similiar to a .zip. You will need to unzip the folder before you can play! I would imagine any modern unzipping program would be capable of handling .rars. I use Win RAR myself, which can be found as a free trial here:

http://www.win-rar.com/start.html?&L=0

As storyyeller pointed out, 7-Zip is also good for this. Probably better, in fact! It can be found here:

http://www.7-zip.org/

Please pardon the lack of clarity in the original post. If any problems persist in running the file after unzipping the .rar, please let me know.

Edit: Since it seems that more than one person is having trouble with the .RAR situation, Rena's decided to also post a .ZIP version of the folder. If anyone's more familiar with that, well, here you go!

[up] Assuming that was directed at me/the Final Day Area demo... my friend was the one who made it, and she used Game Maker 8.0.

@Registered OK, I played it, and got to the end of the demo on my second attempt. It's good, and fun to play but there really needs to be more player feedback. I finished it, and I still have no idea what my hitbox was, even after reading the readme file. Some indication of when you have been hit would be nice. An indication of when you hit the enemies would be nice as well. I would also make the enemies bullets easier to see, they can be lost somewhat in the background and your own bullets. An outline for them, perhaps?

As for what is good, The bosses were fun, with the right difficulty, and the controls, while a bit odd, were very good once I got used to them. A way of setting your own controls may be helpful though. The graphics and music were good, and like I said, it was fun which is important for a game. ^_^

EDIT: Oh, I did find one bug. It was rather unwilling to shut down. I had to go into the control panel to make it go away. Is this just my computer?

I couldn't play the game, because it was one file instead of a folder or app, so Windows couldn't play the game. Help, please?

^What's the file extension? It's probably either .zip or .rar, which means you'll need to unzip it first.

[up][up]You need something that can open a .RAR file. There are several you can get online for free.

@Sixthhokage Drat. Sorry about that... I hope when and if ya do get it installed that you can give the game a try.

@Cookoo Thank you very much! I'm glad to hear you did enjoy it. We definitely do need more feedback! That's half the reason she decided to post the demo, I think. Your concerns have been noted, and we appreciate you sharing them.

The background is not finished yet (I need to get on that, really), so hopefully the bullets will be a bit more apparent in the final version. If that doesn't work and the bullets are still difficult to make out though, we'll quite probably rebalance the colors of the bullets, though adding in an outline may also a good solution.

As for shutting down the program, only the Escape key seems to work properly for that. The X on the window just simply doesn't seem functional, for unknown reasons. Sorry about that! It will be addressed.

@Super Gex Drat again! There seem to be some annoying problems going on here... if you received an error message when you tried to run it, could you please copy it exactly? Thank you for your time, and my apologies for the inconvenience.

Edit: Oh... yes, okay, if you haven't unzipped the .rar file, you'll need to do that first, sorry! Most unzipping programs should be able to handle .rars, I think. Please let me know if you encounter any more issues. Thank you to Red Savant and Cookoo, as well.

VLC players can open up RAR files, and you can download them free. I watch videos in VLC all the time — it works way better than Quicktime.

Why would you use a media player to unzip files. Just do yourself a favor and install 7zip.
