Someone did math based on tiny animation details that couldn't possibly have been intentional and came out to several thousand. I don't buy it, since Ponyville is supposed to be more of a small-ish village, but it doesn't really matter.

There was a thread I'd seen on Ponychan's /show/ which guesstimated the exchange rate to about 8 bits to 1 US dollar (about 12 to 1 Singaporean dollar assuming average exchange rate 1.2).

Well, in Canada the minimum to be considered a town is 5, 000 - less than that you're a village I think, though I don't know how far down it scales. In the northwest territories a Hamlet is up to 1, 00 people. So I guess if ponyville is a village it's between 1, 00 and 5, 000. But to be honest based on feel alone I'd guess a few hundred residents.

Hmmmm, speaking of money, it doesn't seem like there are any high-tier financial experts in our immediate cast. Rarity and AJ are probably the best at budgeting, and Twi might know some money maths, but it doesn't seem like any of them might be top-tier money experts (Although Twi and possibly Dashie after getting hooked to archeology by Daring Do might know a bit of the coinage itself).

I am more curious about the medians.
How large is Canterlots population? Or even say Manehatten? How large is an average pony family? Do certain ponies live in larger groups than others?
@Ace Something like that. I am not exactly sure if it was ever legal tender but referring to a quarter as Two Bits was quite popular back in the day.

Ponyville never seemed particularly large, so somewhere in the very low thousands (1 to 2) is as far as I'm willing to go, and the population skews more youngish, I would say.

True that. Ponyville doesn't strike me as a place with a particularly massive population.
So, let us try guesstimating. With a "possible" 1:1:1 (or very close) ratio for racial distribution, and a possible pegasus population in Ponyville of about 100 (Dashie was aiming for an average of 10 Wingpower per pegasus to break the 1000 WP record for Tornado Day), Ponyville would have a population of a paltry 300.

I'd say Ponyville has more Earth Ponies than anything, like Canterlot probably has more unicorns. Cloudsdale is almost 100% pegasus, though.

I think that Ponyville is predominantly Earth Ponies though with Pegasi and Unicorns in the minority.

Looking solely at the Applebloom's class IIRC there are 3 Unicorns (Sweetie Belle, Snips and Snails), 3 Pegasi (Scootaloo, Featherweight and Alula I think) and 5 Earth Ponies (Applebloom, Twist, Diamond Tiara, Silver Spoon and Truffle.) That's an extremely small sample size though and I've probably forgotten some of them.

Sadly, the only info we get about Namby is that she graduated the year before Ponyville Confidential, and none of the fanfic writers are gambling on her race :V
