@Red Savant - My problem with this episode is that I think the Flims and the Apples could have a very mutually beneficial economic deal. It just feels to me that the whole conflict arose for the sake of the plot.
Of course, I have no idea how rural economy works so I can't really stand in the Apples' shoes so feel free to correct me.

I think they would have been willing to consider it if not for the fact that the Flim Flams were blatantly trying to con them. They offered a really terrible deal, and then didn't even bother trying to bargain them to more reasonable terms in favor of trying to monopolize the cider industry.
But yeah, I do think that in terms of the resolution, both parties kinda grabbed the Idiot Ball. Flim and Flam would have won no question if they hadn't let the Apples bring in extra help.
