Maybe it's because it's about a human and isn't just about ponies being sad? I've never read it myself, so I can't really say. It might've just been hyped up by something.

It was a story about a lonely guy with nothing else in his life finding filly!Rainbow Dash in a cardboard box and raising her as his daughter before Celestia and the rest of the girls showed up years and years later to take her back. It's basically about ponies being the only good thing in this guy's life, so I guess it must have resonated with people? I don't know.

Personally, I think it had a decent start, but it just never did anything after that.

It basically idealizes isolating a child because said child happens to be an MLP and somehow despite a totally different life she turns out as Rainbow Dash. The writing itself is also full of telling (as opposed to showing).
