For eleven long years. When I got my new computer and high-speed internet, one of the first things I did was see how fast I could now download the same Megasweet pic. Less than two seconds.

Ah, dialup. I certainly don't miss the days when Homestar Runner cartoons took two or three minutes to load.

Although that "duck choking to death" noise the modem made when connecting is somewhat nostalgic.

Oh yes, the joy of trying to check my People PC e-mail with dial-up. There was a "speed up your computer" TV ad around this time that said, "If it takes you more than three seconds to load your e-mail, you may have a virus!" Three seconds? I was lucky if I could access my e-mail in three minutes.
