I also have to wonder what the hell kind of play it was supposed to be, anyway.

The kind where adding bling to costumes of food is considered a good thing, apparently.

@Central Avenue, last page

A stupid habit carried over from Discovery Kids, which at least had the excuse of being edutainment-centric.

That did look like one weird play.

It was probably an educational play about all the basic food groups, or something like that.

It's reminding me of that story arc from Calvin and Hobbes where he played some sort of food.

I think he ended up caught in a locker or something and missed the play?

'Fillies bobbing back and forth dressed as food while bouncy music plays' got rave reviews from one D.Hooves, although she did say there could have been more muffins.

Oh yeah. I'm sure Calvin's performance brought a tear to the eye.

Also in To Kill a Mockingbird, where Scout is a big ham...

Personally I didn't think that the gems added much to those costumes and they represent some of the weakest designs Rarity has ever done.tongue

Also why do Rarity and Fluttershy have the only single word names out of the main cast?

And how is that unusual? For one thing, that's two out of six. One away from being half of them.

Also, it's not like having a single word name makes them that unique, given that we have Celestia, Luna, Caramel, Cheerilee, Scootaloo...

A bit morbid but...

I wonder what cutie mark would appear on a pony with the profession of a gravekeeper.

Tombstone? Coffin?

Well we might never know. Show doesn't exactly permit death like on Transformers.

Although, an episode about a trek into a tomb is permitted of course.

Well it was more or less accidental coincidental.

^^Well, Rainbow Dash is based on Lauren's favorite character...

...though it was also a coincidence. Sort of. It even sounds like the original Mary Sue story. Rainbow dash flew so fast that she duplicated a mythological event. And won the race, of course.

The laconic version of a Mary Sue:

"An implausibly perfect/competent idealized character."

Rainbow Dash has serious character flaws, and only has the level of competence required to create a sonic rainboom twice in her life. I'm betting it requires a very high level of motivation/adrenaline. Compare to the abilities Twilight- someone even Celestia has said to likely have the most raw magical talent of any unicorn she's met- demonstrates on a regular basis. Or hell, Celestia. Hell again, Pinkie Pie has even more implausible competence since she doesn't have magic to justify her reality hax. The rainboom isn't that implausible in comparison.

The effects of the rainboom were coincidences- or perhaps more fitting for this setting, a manifestation of destiny. It doesn't say anything about her competence.
