I'm still working on my
Pony Emblem idea. I've got a basic plot outline for the first two acts now, done a couple crummy character sketches, and am starting to think about side quests. Right now I'm thinking about how to turn
Sonic Rainboom into a mission. I'm thinking something like this:
The map is made up of a long twisty valley with a throne at the end and mountains on either side of the valley. Rainbow is supposed to be competing against those three guys that kept hassling her in the episode, who were previously established in an earlier chapter to have been part of the same squadron as her, but she went left them to protect a village from Nightmare Moon's forces when they wanted to bail.
The fliers are supposed to be competing to reach the throne first, but bandits have attacked the competition to try and claim the prize for themselves, and have set up ballistas on the cliffs surrounding the valley. Your ground forces have to move along the cliffs taking out the ballistas while Rainbow and any other fliers you have move down the valley fighting bandits and trying to reach the throne before the three jerks do (who are neutral NPCs and also fighting the bandits on the way).
If you reach the throne first, you win a Red Gem (or some ponified equivalent), which can be sold for a nice sum of gold (bits). If you reach the throne first,
and keep all three of the jerks alive, the jerks will apologize to Rainbow and give her an Elysian Whip, the upgrade item that gives Pegasus Knights like Rainbow a class promotion.
This sidequest would probably take place early in Act 2, when things have calmed down after Luna's restoration and Celestia is sending Twilight around to collect magical artifacts for no apparent purpose.
