I don't normally drop into the Animation forum often, but I need to get this off my chest. A couple of days ago I got it into my head that a pony version of Fire Emblem would be awesome. It would be done in the style of the GBA games using humanized versions of ponies for the characters. I'm tentatively dubbing it Cutie Emblem, and it would have three acts of ten chapters each.

Act One would introduce Twilight as the game's Lord character (meaning she's the main character and her death results in a Game Over) with Shining Armor as the Jeigan, and the rest of the Mane 6 joining up in the first few chapters before more of the extended cast starts to filter in. This act's purpose is to take down Nightmare Moon, who has assembled an army and is threatening to invade Equestria to usurp the throne. The act ends with Nightmare's defeat and conversion back into Luna, at which point she reveals that Chrysalis was behind her corruption, and is already infiltrating Equestria. If you did things right, Luna now joins your party.

Act Two then takes you back to Equestria, where Chrysalis has put Celestia under her spell and declared you and your friends traitors. You fight your way back to the palace in Canterlot to defeat the hypnotized Celestia and drive off Chrysalis, who reveals that Discord has been the mastermind all along. Celestia joins your army if you did things right.

Act Three, then, takes the fight to Discord with Chrysalis as his Dragon, possibly with an alternate ending if you used the Elements of Harmony (this game's version of the Triangle Attack) to beat him rather than conventional attacks.

For those unfamiliar with FE, classes are (">" denotes class promotion):

  • Mage (balanced anima magic users) > Sage (gains healing) or Mage Knight (mounted magic user, gains healing)
  • Monk (Weak, but Skilled light magic user) > Bishop (gains healing) or Valkyrie (mounted magic user, gains healing)
  • Cleric/Priestess (healer) > Bishop (gains light magic) or Valkyrie (mounted magic user, gains light magic)
  • Troubadour (mounted healer) > Valkyrie (gains light magic) or Mage Knight (gains anima magic)
  • Shaman (Unskilled, but Strong dark magic user) > Druid (gains healing) or Summoner (creates weak minions)
  • Mercenary (balanced sword fighter) > Hero (gains axes) or Ranger (mounted sword fighter/archer)
  • Myrmidon (Weak, but Skilled sword fighter) > Swordmaster (high crit chance) or Assassin (chance to 1h-KO)
  • Fighter (Unskilled, but Strong axe fighter) > Warrior (gains bows) or Hero (gains swords)
  • Pirate (Fighter, but can cross water) > Warrior (gains bows) or Berserker (high crit chance)
  • Soldier (weak lance fighter, generally a mook class)
  • Knight (Mighty Glacier lance fighter) > General (gains axes and swords, chance to totally negate enemy attack) or Great Knight (mounted Mighty Glacier, gains axes and swords)
  • Archer (ranged fighter) > Sniper (chance to never miss) or Ranger (mounted sword fighter/archer)
  • Thief (weak sword fighter with special skills) > Rogue (no longer needs items to use skills) or Assassin (chance to 1h-KO, can no longer use skills)
  • Cavalier (balanced mounted lance/sword fighter) > Paladin (Lightning Bruiser) or Great Knight (Mighty Glacier, gains axes)
  • Pegasus Knight (Weak, but Skilled aerial mounted lance fighter) > Falcoknight (gains swords) or Wyvern Knight (Glass Cannon, chance to bypass enemy's armor)
  • Wyvern Rider (Unskilled, but Strong aerial mounted lance fighter) > Wyvern Lord (gains swords) or Wyvern Knight (Glass Cannon, chance to bypass enemy's armor)
  • Dancer/Bard (non-combat support unit)

My tentative assignments are:

  • Mages: Twilight Sparkle, Trixie, Sweetiebell
  • Monks: Rarity
  • Shaman: Zecora, Photo Finish
  • Clerics/Priestesses: Nurse Redheart
  • Troubadours: Fluttershy
  • Mercenaries: Spike, Braeburn
  • Myrmidon: Snails, Luna (downgrades from Swordmaster as Nightmare Moon after being de-crazied, can be promoted again later)
  • Rangers: Doctor Whooves
  • Fighters: Little Strongheart, Snips
  • Warriors: Chief Thunderhooves
  • Pirates: Pip
  • Knights: Big Macintosh
  • Great Knights: Shining Armor
  • Archers: Applejack, Cherilee
  • Thieves: Pinkie Pie, Applebloom
  • Cavaliers: Lyra and Bonbon^, Scootaloo, Octavia and Vinyl Scratch^
  • Paladins: Celestia
  • Pegasus Knights: Rainbow Dash, Derpy Hooves
  • Falcoknights: Spitfire, Soarin
  • Wyvern Riders: Gilda
  • Dancers: Cadence
  • Soldiers: OC (because I can, so nyah :P)

^: Every FE game has a pair of cavaliers who are Those Two Guys and usually have a Red Oni, Blue Oni thing going on. Lyra/Bonbon and Octy/Vinyl are both candidate pairs. Lyra and Bonbon play better to the Those Two Guys angle, but Octy and Vinyl have a better Red Oni, Blue Oni dynamic. If it's not Octy/Vinyl, Vinyl would probably be another Mercenary.

I haven't gotten to working out the support conversation tables yet, partly because the Mane 6 are giving me trouble with the numbers. Generally, a character has a maximum of 7 other characters they can support with in these games, which doesn't leave much room for any of the girls to have supports with other characters if they each have all the others on their lists, but they would logically need to have each other in order for the Elements of Harmony to be usable. One alternative would be to only require Twilight to have support levels with each of them rather than all of them having levels with each other, but that still locks Twilight out of being able to support with almost anyone else. Of course, the 7 support options limit could just be dropped.

Phew. Feels good to get that all down in text.

Hey there, Wryte. I don't know a lot about the fire emblem series, but it sounds pretty cool.

Pinkie's certainly sharply dressed.

I got part of mine removed and it's grown back a good deal.

I once had my toenail ripped out completely but it grew back and doesn't look any different now.

Ouch, storyyeller! That must've been painful. Thankfully I haven't had anything like that happen.

@Wryte Strangely enough, there is in fact a Pony Emblem project in the works (or at least there was, it's been a while since I've heard anything about it). Kuroi was working on it, IIRC, so you could ask him about it if you wanted.

I have Emperor: Battle for Dune, I think that is the last one that was ever made.

Speaking of which, do you think the sandworms in Age of Wonders were baesd on Dune? As a kid, I always assumed sandworms were just a mythological creature.

Why would you want a stand for a portable console? That defeats the purpose.

Apparently you need one to play Kid Icarus due to the way you have to hold it.

@story Not true. It's just optimal if you plan to play it for hours, because holding the device in one hand can get tiring.

I'm pretty sure Dune pretty much the first to use the whole "giant worms swim through the sand" thing.

I know, but I didn't realize that at the time. Especially since a lot of the units were based on mythology.
