I used to "love" my aforementioned cousin in the same sense that Spike loves Rarity. My mom cracked jokes about it (while telling me some exaggerated side-effects of inbreeding) and eventually, I grew out of it. I can't exactly remember what my cousin thought of it (her name is Marissa, BTW). I kind of think that Soike and Rarity's relationship is like that.

As for me, I've never had a crush as intense as the one Spike has and I think that he deserves to have it go somewhere.

On the subject of children who are interested in the show, I haven't really met any in person, unfortunately, but a friend of mine did say that she babysits for some young girls who like to have her "play My Little Pony" with them, which from what she said sounds like roleplaying as the characters. She said that they always want her to be Rarity (who she called Radiance at first when talking to me about it) or Rainbow Dash. I suggested that she could suggest being Cheerilee, since she's a high school teacher. Depending on how many of the episodes those girls have watched, they'd probably think it was at least a good joke if they know that my friend is a teacher.

That same friend also has noticed that some of the students she teaches are also fans of the show, including some of the boys. (I didn't want to mention her name for privacy's sake)

Spike/Sweetie Belle is probably my favorite Spike ship.

@Sereg: She's affectionate, yes, but not really romantic. It still looks like an adult talking to a child. Like Edvedd said, it's way more of a familial love vibe than a romantic one.

Spike/Sweetie Belle is one of the few straight pairings that I actually like. That, along with Fancy Pants/Flur De Lis.

Spike/Sweetie Belle I can see as it makes some sense. But it still makes her look a bit like a consolation prize IMO.

Also, I admit that I trust Spike's judgement when it comes to matters of the heart far more than I trust Rarity...and probably most of the other girls as well.

Well, I just completed the Hub's 8-bit pony game using all 6 characters. I actually found Rarity to be the easiest to use to complete the game. I think I got through all 6 levels fastest using her. It might just be that I had more practice when I got to her since Twilight was first, though, rather than Rarity necessarily being more powerful than Twilight in the game.

So, with all the RD hate I keep seeing {Not nessacarly here, though I've seen it here as well}, who here actually likes RD for her brash personality and her Jerk with a heart of gold moments? Cause I do. And I still don't get all the RD and Rarity hate.

...lame. They are characters. People will have their own opinions. Clubs like this are just gonna make people feel persecuted for their opinions.

I like RD for same reason. I don't get her hate too. Just like for most characters, or episodes.

I haven't seen any RD hate in months, aside from ATC's rant last night. In any case, last time I checked, Rarity and RD were tied at the top in my favorite pony listings.

I'm well over my RD hate. Her more positive attributes really come to the forefront for me now.

I like Dashie :3 She might not be the nicest pony around, but she's not a total meanyface.

Rainbow was my second favorite from start and remained that.

The Clubs arn't for making people feel bad. Their just there to try and defend two charectors who get too much hate usually for petty or overexacerated reasons. The Protect Rarity Club even has this in the description.

"If Rarity's not your favorite, then fine, I won't criticize that".

Their flaws are part of what makes them interesting characters, so I appreciate that. It's not enough for me to like them more than certain other ponies though and I like them as individuals less than I like them as characters. We wouldn't get along.

But seriously, where is all of this supposed hate? What is there to "protect" the characters from?

It's invisible hate.

It's not like we have to acknowledge the imageboard users who rag on the ponies for their flaws :P

I think Spike/Applebloom is popular because it's generally accepted that Applebloom's talent is in creativity, see Show Stoppers where she should have designed the outfits, thus it's seen as shipping him with a miniature Rarity.
