Funny enough, I think there is a relationship arc, and that's between Spike and Rarity. Would Spike be considered a main character or side character? There have been some hints that Rarity is going to have to let down Spike, but he might be able to make one with Sweetie Belle. Would the Cutie Mark Crusaders be considered main characters or side characters.

Lauren Faust did say that she wanted to keep romance between side characters. Apart from Spike/Rarity, she seems to have stuck to it. Of course, now that she has left MLP: FIM, I wonder if they'll stick to what she said, or if they'll get into it?

*readies tranquilizer in case another incident occurs*

I'd say that Spike a main character, about equal with the CMC in terms of importance at this point. As for the romance, I'd say that he'll continue crushing on Rarity, but as of Dragon Quest, he's been quite handily friend-zoned.

Yeah, Spike is more or less a main character. I just wish he got a focus episode that was less about "he's a dragon" and more about his role in the group.

Since when? If anything, it seems like she's becoming more receptive to the idea.

EDIT:Agreed! I like dragons, but Spike is more complicated than that.

I don't think Rarity ever seriously entertained the idea of reciprocating. All that happened in Secret of My Excess was that she let him know "I know how you feel, and I don't dislike you for it". I doubt that she really has any romantic feelings for him. She probably just finds it cute more than anything else.

Well, he's had three episodes focusing on him, and one was about his role, one was about his character as a whole (with the dragon biology being the driving conflict), and one was about his identity as a dragon. While the fact that he is a dragon has factored a lot into it, he's still gotten plenty of development apart from the fact that he's a dragon.

Agreed. Like I said, he's been pretty solidly friend-zoned (or family-zoned, as it may be).

Well, I'm going on a Gurren Lagann archive binge with my cousin when she comes over today. We already watched the first 3 episodes yesterday, now we're gonna watch the rest.

Next time I do the lawn, I need to wear shoes that are closed-toed, today was like the third time straight I got bit by fireants during yardwork.

@Sixth: Here's a BCW tip against arthropods from me: Soap/Detergent solutions are most effective washout solutions. The reduced surface tension prevents air bubbles from protecting their ventilation and will drown them quickly. A few buckets will put paid to a good part of the colony (use a pressure syringe to force the solution deep into their colony, or dig them up and hose them down). If indoors, seal the house and use standard sterilization technique of formaldehyde vapor to gas them out (WARNING: This method is highly toxic and should only be attempted by trained professional exterminators).

EDIT: I must admit that I find it odd that the most popular Spike/CMC ship is Spike/Applebloom (seriously, where did that come from?). Spike/Sweetie I can see, though if he doesn't end up with Rarity, I'd honestly prefer him to end up with Fluttershy.
