@Death Well, they probably have the design already worked out at this point.

I'm assuming this is what the character looks like, but we are not sure about their role in the story.

They look like a villain, but we could be wrong about that.

So I am tossing around an idea for Doctor Eggman invades Equestria. Doctor eggman partners up with the greedy King of the Diamond Dogs to find the Chaos Emeralds which got spread all over equestria due to a critical explosion in his last greatest machine. The protaganists would include the main cast from both series (Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, The Mane Six) with background ponies playing supporting roles (God help me if I attempt to write a decent Amy Rose).

Huh, that looks interesting. Villain looks a bit like they went down an Obviously Evil checklist, but we really don't have enough info to really say much about him. We'll see how it turns out.
