Out of curiosity, did you see "Hearts and Hooves Day" as a Deconstruction of Shipper on Deck?

I mean, think about it. The Cutie Mark Crusaders tried shipping Cheerilee with Big Macintosh. But C and BM apparently don't think it's a good idea. So the CMC try to make it happen by making a love potion and tricking both of them into drinking it. It brought the two together...but it caused them to become excessive mushy and focused on each other. That, and finding out that it was actually a love poison that supposedly caused big trouble for a kingdom at one time causes the CMC to have a My God, What Have I Done? moment and motivates them to undo it. Then they have to explain themselves to C and BM and face the consequences. Then C and BM apparently decide to go out on a date at the end.

The episode certainly had a feeling of playing at least one trope straight, and showing realistic consequences as a result.

I wonder if that thing with C and BM will come up again in Season 3.

What!? Apparently, at the time that that chart was made, Shining Armor had only ben shipped with Blueblood!

EDIT:The problem was less that Big Mac and Cherilee didn't think it was a good idea (though that may have been true as well) but that they felt that they were being awkwardly pressured into it. That feels uncomfortable.

I actually postponed writing it until after Hearts & Hooves day because I didn't want to be hit with the canon-hammer mid-story.

Very well. My take on shipping is that it's primarily based on how interesting that type of interaction between the characters would be, not how likely or unlikely it would be to occur in canon (although if they have more interaction it's easier to tell). So I consider Twilight/AJ my favorite ship because I think they'd interact well in that circumstance. Obviously, that has nothing to do with exclusivity either; my second favorite ship is Rarity/AJ. Shipping is first and foremost a way to explore the characters more by seeing how they react when placed in a certain situation.

We already know what would happen.

I honestly don't get the point or the appeal of shipping one of the mane 6 with a background pony. Not even a few cute pics I've seen could make me think otherwise. No offense to anyone who likes those kind of pairings though, I personally just don't get it.

I think that Trixie and pinecones is still the weirdest meme from this fandom.

The point is that they're only background ponies to us. In-Universe, all ponies are equally significant.

The way that JT ships is how I ship when I'm challenging myself, but then I don't really support the ship. I support ships based on how happy I think that they'll be together.
