Well, so far, it looks like a kids' cartoon just like any other. A good one, but still a kids' cartoon. It's just that I still can't figure out the source of the appeal that attracts such a large Periphery Demographic.
Well, the 2-part pilot doesn't reflect the rest of the show as much.
And some have described the show as "
Lucky Star, but american and with ponies and more adventure instead." So I guess if you like
Slice of Life series with a cute cast, FIM could be your "cup of tea."
Oh, and some are just fans of
Dexter's Laboratory,
Power Puff Girls and
Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends and hopped on the pony wagon since the same people are behind it too.
Then theres the fact that it's probobly one of the best cartoons with the basis/origin of "merchandise driven and directed at 10 year old girls." Just hearing/reading that usually get's anything branded as utter shit, but FIM averts it.
At any rate, it's one of the better cartoons I've seen.
And I bet there are so many closet furries watching it.
Though I think the fandom can be a bit pushy...

And Bun there just gave the biggest reason to the amount of fan art.
The pony designs are the most simplistic things since
Sonic the Hedgehog!
