Power to the bronies! ^_^ What did fox say about us?

Depends on whether you listened to the local Fox station or the Colbert-type show that they have.

Either way, it doesn't necessarily paint us in a good light.

In one segment, some guy said that bronies were all losers who got paid to watch My Little Pony all day and compared us to some 350 pound man who pretended like he was a baby. They had another one that was kinder though.

The first one is the local, the second is the nationwide one.

There was also an NPR program, but it waid that we were 'unemployed', which is odd, becuase I happen to have a full-time job, and even though I love the ponies, I don't get out of work early just to watch them.

That's what a DVR is for.

Wait, ponies aren't mainstream yet?
I took a guess and cut a portion out of my heart.

They're pretty prolific on the internet, but that's it.

Watching a show about ponies and paying the bills are mutually exclusive? What?

To be honest, I find the defensiveness displayed in some comments of Equestria Daily a little excessive. I mean, let's be honest, grown people watching a (well-made, mind you) little girls' show and writing fanfiction/drawing fanart about it is more than a little silly.

That's what makes it fun, of course, and there is nothing wrong with a bit of silliness anyway; but come on, it's not a tragedy if someone makes jokes about grownups watching My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. That's precisely what we are doing ourselves, after all — I mean, the term "brony" itself is a clear enough hint, right? To say nothing about terms such as "everypony", "nopony" and so on...

In that first Fox segment, in particular, I think that the truly offensive thing was not that they compared bronies to spoiled manchildren — rather, it was that they used a bizarre (if amusing) Internet fandom as a way to insult people who go into disability because of very real, very serious conditions.

[up][up][up][up] Add me to the legion of employed bronies, if you will. And since my day job consists in messing with some fairly interesting mathematical problems, I'd think that my personal contribution to humankind — small though it may be — is still greater than that of a bunch of unimaginative talk show denizens cracking predictable "jokes" about internet fandoms as an hamfisted attempt to advance their objectionable political beliefs.

So browsing for pony artwork today, I find a lot of furries that act all high and mighty like they're superior to bronies and vice versa.

It makes me laugh and maybe die a little inside.

Every fandom has its members that are a bit... disturbing. I'm reminded of the time when I was more active in the Kigdom Hearts fandom, and happened upon a pages long rant about how Sora and Riku are "NOT gay, retards!"

Given how crazy the Yaoi Fangirls are in that fandom, I wouldn't be surprised if someone snapped and wrote a pages upon pages essay.

The whole anti-furry thing in the community is somewhere between confusing and bothersome for me. In part because I myself am a furry, but mostly because these are talking, intelligent ponies, with very human expressions, who occasionally walk upright and handle object with their forelegs.

They already are furries.

I've accepted the fact that people find the ponies attractvie. Heck, even I have crushes on a couple of them. I still find the fact that people have taken to drawing pornographic images of them disturbing, but I'll get over it. Strangely enough, I've seen fans who were anti-shipping or anti-hentai, but never specifically anti-furry

^^ Wrong meaning of "furry". The community isn't hostile towards talking animals, it's hostile towards the furry fandom.

I think the fandom needs to calm down a bit. Some of the craziness is going past normal amounts of crazy.

I agree. We have to tone things down, which is hard to do. I think everyone's going through withdrawal.

The whole "depicting ponies in sexually charged situations" thing is an in-joke, right? I was assuming that even the most, um, risqué images and fanfictions were there for the sake of gross-out humour — not something I enjoy, but eh — and not because people actually wish to have intercourse with, well, horses.

[up][up] Are we a little naive here?

Although it's a good point. I wonder, how much of MLP Rule 34 is drawn/written just for the sake of humor (it sure as hell isn't everything)?
