@Orion and Storyyeller (previous page) - Sorry it took me so long to get back to you re: "Why I want to kill Surprise, " I was trying to come up with an answer that didn't sound like I was just blaming the forum.
Let me say it straight: Sharing your sandbox just doesn't work. Creators who are worth their salt (and I hope I am) often have very specific ideas, but if they let other people contribute, those ideas become more generic. Comic Books and television have been proving this since their inception.
When I share Surprise (in sockpuppet form), I have to leave stuff out (people haven't read the fic after all, and if they have there's still parts I haven't gotten to yet), but that opens the door for aspects to be flanderized and blown out of proportion. The "human slavery" thing for example or, worse in my mind, the idea that because she ate
me once that she's some sort of killer and everything she offers might be laced with poison (one person even suggested she would hurt foals... which would be
extreme character derailment actually). And yet to offset this I have to go too far in the opposite direction and make her Pinkie Pie with Wings.
So now she collects plushies, and she goes Supermom whenever Pipsqueak has the sniffles, even though she's not his mom.
Ugh.
I'd
like to introduce more specific characterizations, including stuff that hasn't really shown up in the fic yet. But if I do, I'm basically just playing with myself. But if I don't, then she's boring. It's a catch-22 is what it is. EDIT: Another problem here is that, some of the stuff I want her to do will really only work in a specific context.
It's sort of the same reason I never liked
MM Os or Pen-n-Paper
RP Gs like Dungeons and Dragons, actually.
