Season 2 finale aside, I have to go with A Dog and Pony Show. The finale isn't really fair to use because it's a 2-parter. They had more time to jam more awesome and character stuff in.

Either Over A Barrel (where the show grows the beard in my opinion) or Season 2 finale (through HSQ alone).

My knee-jerk is to Hurricane Fluttershy, at least for season 2. Overall I think I still have to give it to Green Isn't Your Colour.

This show grew a beard? Doesn't that require a rather obvious tonal shift?

@Lurker I think it's just when you personally think a show started hitting its stride (like season 4 of The Simpsons for most people).

I only barely do. Really, I can maybe point out my top five episodes before everything blends into the amazingly consistent quality of the episodes here, with only one or two stragglers on the low-ish end. It's the same for the ponies, too. I really can't rank things. Maybe I should do another impromptu character scoring, since I don't think I've done one since just before the finale.

I pretty much like or love all the episodes so far.

Mine is Sweet and Elite. I think. There's just so many to choose from!

Eh, I don't really like Over A Barrel. The conflict was resolved easily but I can forgive that because, well, this is a children's show. The point that the settler ponies had a much better claim to the land than the buffalo kind of killed it for me.

Oh well. A Bird In The Hoof is awesome and more than makes up for it.

@Purple What? The whole point of that episode was that both sides had equal claims to the land. There was no strawman in the first place.

But they don't have an equal claim! The ponies need the land to live, the buffalo just need it for some silly tradition.

Season 2: Discounting the premeire and finale for being 2 parters, I'd say either Sisterhooves Social or Hurricane Fluttershy. Lesson Zero is a strong contender though.

Season 1: It's close, but I'm going with Dog and Pony Show, edging out Green Isn't Your Color.

Overall, I have no idea. Too many good ones to pick from.

@Perpetual: I'm with Purple on this one because 1. The ponies need the land for more than the buffalo do and 2: the buffalo's claim to owning it is pretty questionable, given that the ponies had no idea the buffalo claimed ownership. I could go on, but linking to this is easier because it sums up my thoughts on the episode.
