I forgot to mention another advantage transcripts have...they can beat the closed captions on
YouTube clips any day! No, really. I had the CC turned on for a clip of the "Fall Weather Friends", and the sentences were almost completely nonsensical. Apparently, the CC has a hard time putting Applejack's Tennessee drawl voice into words. That, and it has a hard time telling the difference between actual words and just sounds characters are making, like when Spike is being tossed around and he's making "Whoa!" type of noises. My heart goes out to the people out there who do not write or speak English as their native language when they come across CC like that.
