I'm going with the headcanon that if you stay in the crystal empire long enough, you become crystal like its inhabitants.

Mine is that Cadance already is the princess of the Crystal Empire, but it's a vestigial title and the monarchy doesn't do anything there.

I can also add the bits about the council and the emperor, if anyone wants it.

Red - Energy, slow radiation turns you into a statue
Orange - Food, found on mountain tops
Yellow - Available
Green - Enhancement, used to show social status
Blue - Turns you into a golem slowly
Indigo - Terrain, useless
Violet/Purple - Mind control
Pink - Instantaneous statueification
Black - Armor and weapons
Clear - Energy conduction

@crow That's blue, but blue works slowly. If you want a quick golemnifying one, you can use yellow for that, since it's unclaimed.

All ponies.

Just to clarify, golems aren't sentient, and are just used for work. The poor ponies work in red mines, but the radiation slowly kills them. The social elite have green crystal added to their body to improve their status.

@bad Maybe not all pink golems, but they were all made of crystal, and were the only sentient golems. Oh, and the Emperor, who'd been shut inside a mountain until danger arose. Once the Changelings come to the Crystal Empire, he wakes up and tries to seize power again, but the council opposes him.

I do wonder one thing, apparently all of the ponies there are either Crystal or appear crystal. What crystal does that?

Or is it because they only eat the orange crystal?

@crow That might just be a latent trait, like a pegasus having wings.

And to add to the council, not all of them are pony-golems. Some are minotaurs, griffons, etc.

Some of the Crystal Empire toys only have sparkly attributes instead of actually being crystal...of course, that could just mean that they haven't finished becoming crystal yet...
