Are we Ranking ponies again? I rank them in how well I relate to them... how similar they are to myself.

  1. Rarity
  2. Twilight
  3. Pinkie Pie
  4. Fluttershy
  5. Applejack
  6. Rainbow Dash

I don't really think that RD fits the model of "pride" or egoism though. There's nothing wrong about feeling good about yourself (and others) if it's proportional to what you've done / are.

1. Applejack

2. Everyone else

Now this is in contrast to Dash who clearly thinks she's already good enough to achieve her dreams. She doesn't want to earn her way into the wonderbolts, she assumes she simply has to show off and they'll accept her. That smacks much more of egotism to me than anything Rarity does.

UHHHH, WHAT? Throughout the show Dash has consistently talked about training to join the Wonderbolts. She's completely aware that she's not ready to join yet, she's tried to make contact with the bolts on several occasions but has never attempted to join them. She's training because she wants to be good enough to join. Personally I think she's selling herself short, but she doesn't at all think she's as good as them.

Yeah, Rainbow is constantly training, constantly reaching for the goal of being good enough to join the Wonderbolts. And her pride in her abilities is certainly justified.

@Wazkatango: I would think that people of exceptional ability would be even more vulnerable of fulling into pride/hubris. In that sense I think RD does fit the type.

Ah yes, the "It's okay to be a smug asshat as long as you're ACTUALLY skilled" thing.

... -_- No... just... no. I don't think I'm wrong for expecting people to be better than that.

Sorry, I just don't find heroes who go around LOUDLY proclaiming how great they are to be all that cool or endearing

It just makes me want to see someone BETTER than them come on by and knock them off their high-horse

Despite all of the times when she's basically said, "The wonderbolts will be there! I'll interrupt their show, show off, and they'll BEG me to join the team!"

I'll admit she's gotten better about it, and there's no denying she trains hard, but I'd honestly contest whether she has the mindset for it yet.

you'd think that RD being able to pop off a sonic rainboom on command would qualify her for the wonderbolts.

Yes, the one time that's happened.

Clearly AJ is an arrogant pony for thinking she can sell all her apples. And Twilight is one for thinking Celestia will spend all of her time with her. Etcetera, etcetera.

[up][up][up][up]I'm pretty sure she only said that once, and she would probably be to starstruck to make it happen.

She's very skilled, very disciplined, but she lacks control. She gets distracted easily, crashes a lot, and has crippling anxiety problems when it comes to performing in front of a judge (at least she did in Sonic Rainboom). I really think all of her problems would get solved if they took her on and let her train with them for a few months though.

Pony rankings? Mine change sometimes over time, but right now it's:

  • 1. Applejack
  • 2. Twilight
  • 3. Rainbow Dash/Pinkie
  • 4. Fluttershy
  • 5. Rarity

Rarity being last doesn't mean I dislike her, though, I like all of the Mane Cast.

Still want the episode where RD tries out for the Wonderbolts, but gets turned down becuase while her personal skill is up to it, she's to poor and acting as part of a team.

RD had to a lot of training before the Wedding Boom didn't she?

Even so, she's definately getting better.

@Blue Welp, THAT certainly isn't endearing.

but we all know how I feel about skilled protagonists. So back to Pokemon

Which are things they've both already demonstrated capability of doing. Dash has not demonstrated her ability to impress the wonderbolts with her tricks[ - at least not to the degree where they'd instantly accept her into their team.

I'm not calling her arrogant either, mind you. There's a difference between having an ego and being arrogant. an ego says, "I'm great." Arrogance says, "Nothing can challenge me". Dash has a very solid ego. One earned, to a degree, but still a giant ego. For example, thinking it would be an honour to be her pet? Big Ego.

And Rainbow hasn't demonstrated that she can do awe inspiring tricks?

And Rarity has previously married a prince for his status, right? AJ has been to Canterlot and sold all the apples? Twilight has been doted on by Celestia during an important event?

The pets evidently thought it was honour to compete for it.

If we're going by ponies that we realte to, then from most to least would be:

1. Twilight

2. Fluttershy (though the test says that these top two should be switched around and I agree that they make a good point. I probably am more like Fluttershy overall)

3. Aplejack/Pinkie/Rarity all tied because I relate to them about the same amunt for different reasons

4. Rainbow Dash. We're about as different as possible. The only similarity we have is that our ego is dependant on others.

AJ has sold her apples and apple products to most families in Ponyville. Twilight knows she's Celestia's favourite. Both have good reason to assume that these would carry over.

Dash, meanwhile, has performed her best trick in front of the wonderbolts and, this is the important part, not been asked to join the team. Therefore it is unreasonable to assume that popping off a trick or two would be enough to get her accepted.

Rarity's assumption Blueblood would drop everything to marry her was arrogant, yeah, but you'll notice she dropped that by second season. Dash, however, retains her ego all throughout.

And we don't know that the pets thought it was necessarily an honour to be with Dash. From everything I would guess they all just wanted an owner; someone who would care about them regardless of who it was.

I say that the main reason is not in the Wonderbolts is because they don't accept dropouts.

Again i think the Wonderbolts know she has the skill, but also know she's not ready for a spot on the team becuase she's still to immature and doesn't have the discipline yet. there just waiting for her to grow up a bit more.
