In news, apparently the Furry community and Brony community are at war....

I actually haven't heard from furries in the longest time. Then again, I haven't really been to parts of the interwebs that would have any.

Doi you mean war, or a very few idiots on either side making a lot of noise with each other while no one else cares?

Maybe not so apparently. I haven't seen much sign of this in ages.

I didn't know.

But I'm neutral towards the fandom and probably not going to get myself involved, so...

Ehh its something that the Bronies on Google + are talking about. A very good rundown of why both communities are similar (not mine, stolen from thread):

  • both cultures involve "cosplay/dressing up"
  • both cultures involve the anthropomorphism of animals
  • both have a very popular pornographic side to them
  • both cultures have a high number of non-heterosexual people in them
  • both cultures have meet-ups
  • both cultures have original characters which are often used for role playing
  • both sides aggressively dislike the other
  • both are disliked by most "outsiders"
  • both consist of many people who have trouble socializing in real life with people outside of either culture
  • both have smaller groups that involve "spiritual connections" with animals, however one focuses mainly on horses while the other focuses mainly on whatever the particular person's fursona is.

Re: furies against bronies - old news. There was a bit of hilarious/pathetic drama a while ago when furaffinity had a brony banner thing.

Wait, "spiritual connection"? We got MLP otherkin or something?

As a brony with a side Furry interest I find all this drama rather silly.

@Turtle: There's one massive difference though. Being a brony only involves liking a particular show that happens to involve ponies. Being a furry, even in the most vague definition, is a statement about one's overall preferences for works that involve animals. I.e. I'm a brony because I happen to be a fan of this one show, while I'm not a furry because I don't have a preference for certain types of works. There are similarities, obviously, but they aren't the same thing. I think bronies have a lot more in common with say, Trekkies, than they do with furries.

Yea but Furry has been around forever, and has Multiple shows that support its existence, even MLP supports furry's existence because ... talking animals.

Having been a member of both communities I'll say I prefer Brony... at least until it goes mainstream and becomes overly sexualized like furry has become.
