Rarity has definite Jerkass traits, but so does every pony really. They also all have redeeming aspects to balance it. I think that's part of what I like so much about them. They are at heart good characters, but have lots of obnoxious qualities to make them interesting and humorous, and to insure neither of them gains a pedestal over another.

Rarity isn't my favorite but she's a likeable character to me and a lot more multi faceted than most characters in her mould.

Exactly; I'm not saying that Rarity doesn't have her flaws, but the way she typically handles them makes her more endearing. In all honesty out of the whole cast I think her issues are probably the truest to life; I'm sure we've all had those moments where you know you should be doing something but end up doing something else.

That's sort of a good depth to Rarity really, a lot of times she knows what she is doing is wrong and is trying not to submit to temptation, she just has a flawed way of handling it. Even the Straight Ponies of the team tend to be more arrogant and convinced they are never wrong at times.

RD is probably the nearest to an outright Jerkass in the team, but they do at least seem to be balancing it carefully, it's a lot easier to appreciate her egotistical roles after her redeeming ones like Hurricane Fluttershy.
