While I've read Problem Sleuth, I've never felt compelled to read Homestuck. It's long, but I hear the fandom is a lot like ours.

The tone and the style (both writing and aesthetic) of Homestuck just started to grate after a while.

And Hype Backlash from the fandom

Yea, Red got bored of the off-topicness and said he was going to go hang out elsewhere until season 3.

Oh, I see. Lol, I think he's hanging out in the wrong place if he wants on-topic discussion.

Hype Backlash is actually understandable; so many people make Homestuck out to be the end-all be-all of entertainment that it's not going to live up to expectations. I really enjoy it, but it definitely has a lot of flaws as well.

@Kuroi: You forgot this, which is ongoing. Also this, which is complete.

Well MLP certainly didn't live up to all the Hype, but I still love it.

@Blue It's just the way people go "THIS IS THE GREATEST THING EVER, IT'S SO CLEVER, AND INGENIOUS, AND THE AUTHOR IS INCAPABLE OF MAKING MISTAKES. WHAT YOU THINK IS A MISTAKE WAS ACTUALLY PLANNED ALL ALONG, HOW DARE YOU BASH IT!!"

No single person has said this, but this is the overall vibe I get from the Homestuck fandom, and so I go in expecting something amazing, and it's... not that good.

And the Author Avatar... (collapses into foetal position)

Yeah, not only could I not get into homestuck, but I really hate the artstyle too. Kinda like how JT feels about One Piece, am I right?tongue

[up]There's also this as well.

@Blue Really? What parts were below your expectations?

Also, any recommendations for music would be appreciated, because I'm in a dry spell.

Yeah, I never bothered posting in the HS thread because it was so off topic. I can deal with the off topic stuff here, but most of it was really weird off topic. That might have changed since I stopped lurking, though.

I never will understand how people can dislike something because other people like it.
This. It makes sense if they dislike the fans, but it's not a fault with the story itself.

Anyway, yeah. Gryphon a Second Chance was pretty good. A shame Red never finished it.

And ginger, can we not have this discussion every time someone offhandedly mentions Homestuck? Blue was only saying where he'd seen Red.* :/

@Marston: Yeah, pretty much. tongue I'd probably love One Piece if I didn't find it almost painful to look at.

And yeah, I lurked the Homestuck thread for a while, but there was too much pointless meme-spewing and offtopic, even compared to this thread. At least here the derails usually begin on topic, and when it updates we do talk about the relevant material for a while.

Fanfic ideas

I have few:

- One that Sat AM fusion fic discused here.

- Fic inspider by shows like Deep Space Nine, Babylon 5, Doctor Who plus some creepypasta, SCP Foundation and some more classical fantasy. Story would centered on some border city designated to be diplomatic hub for world, lots of politics, conflicts, wars with ancient forcer of good or evil, plus some evil invaders from beyond. (BTW no space or to much SF elements)

- War fic about pony conflic before formation of Equestria, jossed so whatever.

- Mirror Grimdark universe, about AU where various darker character interpretetions with Ron the Death Eater and Draco in Leather Pants are true.

- Fic about Crystal Empire , when Crystal Empire was ancient civilistaiton what used stuff like Elements of Harmony as their sorce of power, and involving Reaper like crystal Cosmic Horror who harvest such powers.

- fic about few Canterlot background ponies and some O Cs who trying to uncover mystery of "Stars Are Right" what would become Call Of Chutulu at the end. (That one I would write sometime in future, just to start practicing of fic writing)

- few fics set in my mega crossover universe, mostly one big about Pony space fighter pilots in galactic confict

- and some fics in FOE setting

I like this fandom a lot more honestly. It's a lot friendlier and more open. Homestuck fans delight in trolling due to misconceptions about the way the story is told and a good number of them, even though they are fans, have certain aspects of the story that they personally hate and refuse to believe anyone could actually enjoy. There are some good things about it though, the way the entire fandom bands together to pin down all the symbolism and possible interpretations of the story makes it much more enjoyable to read.

[up]Yeah, it's mainly the trolling and militant defense of certain YMMV items that bugs me. The pony fandom (at least around here) is better at "let's just agree to disagree".

Derail time: Which term do you prefer for female bronies: pegasister or bronette?

I kinda prefer bronette, because it's more complimentary with "brony" and because it doesn't reference a specific pony race.

@ginger Something about it seems odd to me. Maybe it's the Spanish meaning (something like sister hitter). Bronette is self explanatory, since -ette is a female suffix.

I've seen many people get mad over the whole male/female term debate, and say we should all just be bronies, because gender equality and whatnot. I'd just like to have a specific term for clarification.

Well, for people wondering what Seraph is talking about and aren't going to watch the review: At one point in the comic, an evil government agent tells a subordinate not to let anyone into a compound, "not even the whole Justice League riding on magical ponies." Que montage of fan art of the League doing just that.

Or, Seraph could ninja me and spoil it anyway.
