My personal theory? The Elements of harmony were not designed to be used by a single being, that they would conflict and be almost impossible to control. But that is what Celestia had to do because the other bearer of harmony was Luna. This led to Luna getting imprisoned and the Elements becoming inert.

The Elements run on the power of unity. I think that a single person attempting to use them all by herself would find their power sharply reduced, to the point where Celestia could only imprison Nightmare Moon instead of cleansing her. Also, it's quite possible that anywhere between one and five of them were still attuned to Luna herself, further reducing their power when used by Celestia.

And this is why Celestia gambled on Twilight building a team that could use the Elements; she didn't want to banish Luna again, as that would be tantamount to giving up on her sister.

And of course, since the Elements didn't work anymore she couldn't banish Nightmare Moon even if she wanted to.

My theory is that you need six ponies to unlock the Elements' full potential.

But Celestia and Luna using the Elements has the same effect on Discord as the Mane Six using them. I'd think that implies that both groups used them to their full potential.

And all three tribes are required too.

@Meta: He use to post frequently in the Yack Feast thread. Then he stopped coming there, then he came back after "The last round up" came out, posted quite a few times, and then I never saw him again. He's also the awesome guy who gave me this avatar that I'm currently using.

then again. it's one thing to not like it, but saying it doesn't deserve the praise or is overrated (about anything not just FOE) is basically saying your judgement in what is 'good' is better hen the people's that liked it, the shear amount of love people have for pretty much confirms there's something that a LOT of people find great about it, if you don't like it, well that's what YMMV is for, nothing is or everyone, but please don't imply the people that like it are mistaken for doing so.

Much more explosive. The Yack Fest one is only in the 20K's.
