I feel like the things I'm thinking of are really one-man projects. Plus, it'll feel far more rewarding if I do it myself.
I have a message from another time...

I have an interest as well, but I'm currently finishing up a Homestuck fanfic.

... Huh. Caught up. Everyone was talking about Calvin & Hobbes? Shame I missed it.

I grew up reading this and Fox Trot, always being entertained by the surreal situations of Calvin's imagination, his musings on life in general, and the moments of him just acting like a kid and bouncing off of everyone else around him. It made me smile, until the day in high school when I found out that the strip was cancelled on the last newspaper I'd collected.

I've got 7 strip collections, including the 10th Anniversary book and the Sunday strip anthology. I cried at the fanfic "Reminiscence." To me, this strip truly represents childhood at its most essential.

Heh. I remember Foxtrot. Good times. I also have the complete Calvin & Hobbes box set.

Also, didn't finish reading chapter 11 in Fallout Equestria. Got bored again and distracted by a bit of bad writing from a few chapters ago that still bores a hole in my mind. When I left off, Littlepip was being escorted by two guards that I strongly suspect are going to die soon.

Calvin and Hobbes is a comic that gets richer as you get older. I liked it as a kid, but all the really good jokes I only understood in retrospect.

Yeah, isn't it a satire of something?

Satirizes a lot of things.

@Pannic Oh, but not of one specific type of thing?

Yeah. It satirizes advertising, modern art, television, consumerism, modern life in general...

The earlier stuff was simpler, but it got more satirical and complex as it went on.

Yeah, the complexity both in subject material and imagination sequences were due to Watterson's experimental nature combined with Real Life Writes the Plot, as evidenced in his commentary of strips made during his infamous struggles with the syndicate.

[up][up]Most of 'em are pretty bad.

C&H actually satirized newspaper comics by having Calvin and Hobbes hold a conversation about comics that lazily reuse art in all the panels... while reusing the same art in all the panels.

That was only one, centered on Calvin talking with Hobbes about his grandpa's view on comics.

It sounds like one of those things you can't really appreciate unless you grew up with it

Nah. Most of us didn't grow up with it - before my time, in any case.

Sometime just find yourself one of the anthologies and sit down with it.

@death. After lurking the Korra thread for a while, it's weird seeing you make such tiny 1-2 word posts.

Heh. It's just that I get in less debates here, and this thread is more of a conversation than a discussion.
