Are the villains any good?

I understand that games are more canon than the books. What I don't like is over the course of one game they make everything they've ever written about not canon.

The Battle of Reach lasted less than a day, now it lasted over a month. All but two Spartan II Is were dead at the time of Reach, nope there were squads of them running around. Spartan II Is can't physically use MJOLNIR armour nor is it practical for them to nope they can use it now. Halsey didn't know about Spartan II Is until after the events of Halo 2 now she's known about them for ages. Pillar of Autumn was in space doing it's job, no it wasn't it was on Reach and with the Master Chief on board in cryo randomly not doing his job. Etcetera etcetera.

They basically said that the vast majority of the book canon was wrong.

Eh. Not a whole lot of named villains in the first game. Mostly factions. You could say 343 Guilty Spark is a villain, but you never fight him. Later games have the Prophets (Truth, Mercy, Regret), the Gravemind, and some Brute, buuuut I haven't played them.

@Bad Those details, yeah, they're retcons, but they are so small that they can't possibly contradict the overall plot of what happened. The Spartan II's still almost all died on Reach. Reach still fell. The POA still made a blind jump according to the Cole Protocol. Nothing has changed. Really, Ghosts of Onyx got retconed more than Fall of Reach, but that's only in what Halsey claimed she knew, and even after Reach, she still didn't know about any Spartan III's past Noble Team, who appeared to be a separate project, which explains the armor prototypes they had. If those were big enough to impact your enjoyment of the gameplay, then I don't know what to tell you.

The latter half of Fall of Reach isn't canon for obvious reasons, First Strike isn't canon because none of the characters are in the right place anymore and thanks to that knock on effect combined with all the changes they've made Ghosts of Onyx isn't canon anymore.

I'm sorry that I care about consistency and not wasting my money.

Confirmation of her failure caused her to shift from from mania to depression.

I guess when she realized that things were getting out of hand she snapped out of it. That or the script said so.

And you seem to be taking "retconed a few details" to mean "threw the whole story out the window." Those stories still happened. It's just that a few details weren't exact. In any case, this has nothing to do with the quality of the game. At all. It's only dealing with a few people in charge of the universe bible and their decisions regarding the importance of novelizations.

I'm sick and tired of spellcheck telling me "Fluttershy" isn't a real word.

I've never cared about continuity in anything. Little details shouldn't hold the creator back from telling the story they want to tell.

I had to teach Firefox that Scootaloo is a real word when writing my fic. Now it doesn't bother me anymore.

Again, she was back to normal long before Tia arrived. Really, she stops being nuts around the time when she asks Big Mac to get the doll back
