Right. I was just thinking it'd be a bit awkward for them to have a game where any mages have to be of one specific race out of how many other races are in the game.

Ah but since it is Roleplaying they don't have to follow the rules of Equestria. There could be allowances in the game for pegasus spellcasters or earth pony clerics.

Yeah, just because they already live in a fantasy world relative to us doesn't mean that they couldn't play in a fantasy world relative to their own.

It's interesting. Fluttershy would have been an Earth Pony if they could have gotten the rights to Posey, but her being a pegasus in the show actually makes her more interesting. She can fly, but she chooses to stay close to the earth. It also makes her a good counterpart to RD, who would fly all the time if she could.

I like the fanon theory that genetically some ponies are closer to others. For example Fluttershy has strong Earth Pony genes but her Pegasus genes remain the dominent factor. The other theory is that Pinkie Pie has underlying Unicorn genes.

Yeah, I think being a pegasus adds a lot to her character. For example, something interesting about both Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash is that how much they hover or fly near the ground as opposed to simply walking or standing seems to be directly related to their confidence at the moment. RD is nearly always hovering, even when she's just hanging around. Fluttershy, on the other hand, is nearly always grounded, the exception being that during her assertiveness bent in PYHD she started casually hovering much more about the time she started referring to herself in the third person, peaking with her "The Reason You Suck" Speech to Pinkie Pie and Rarity being delivered entirely without touching the ground.

I personally don't care for those kinds of theories, and prefer to think of it as just the way their personalities are. Why should genetics have an effect on the core of their personality outside of how the see themselves?

The wings do add a lot to Fluttershy's character :3 There're other touches like her wings locking up in fright :3

@Lurker Eh I think those theories applied more to Fluttershy's affinity with animals (Which is traditionally an Earth Pony ability) and Pinkie Pie's Pinkie Sense ability than actual personality.

Pinkie's Sense should work like Human ESP, which is basically a hyperperceptive form of advanced extrapolation. Only her Sense is strengthened by her Earth Pony Magic.

@Steve Do we really know that being good with animals is supposed to be an earth pony thing? I mean, it seems like it should just be a personality feature again, rather than something magical. IMO, if Fluttershy's ability to empathize with animals was magical, it would kinda cheapen it.

I think it is something that Lauren Faust once said was connected to Earth Pony magic, but in practice it doesn't seem like your average earth pony is not more empathetic to animals then your average Pegasi or Unicorn.

I always assumed that Animal affinity was an earth pony thing and Fluttershy just happened to be the exception. Now granted it might be a personality thing.

So I logged into Fimfiction this morning to find that a couple thousand words of my next chapter were missing. My avatar is appropriate to my mood.
