@Seraph My theory is that the deserts around Appaloosa and Dodge Junction are like that becasue Cloudsdale doesn't have enough rain to cover ALL of Equestria, so they leave certain places relatively barren.

I imagine there used to be heatwaves back when Tia controlled both the sun AND the moon. Like maybe she'd get so caught up in researching something that she'd sometimes forget to lower the sun

@ed I don't think it's so much that it's the only pegasus city (Las Pegasus) so much that it might contain the only weather factory in Equestria

Las Pegasus was maybe made by Pegasuses (Pegasus gangsters) but now it's multipony or even multiracial city.

well, the way Dash talks about it, seems its at least the main pegasi city, so yeah it probably is the main, if not only weather factory. And I like to think of Las Pegasus as a comnbo, it's got the cloud city overhead, with a section underneath for E Ps and unicorns.

My headcanon is that weather is actually really hard to create, and the methods of building factories like the one in Cloudsdale have long since become lost

nah i'm sure the know how to build them, otherwise if anything broke they'd be screwed.

It probably just takes so many ponies to run it that Cloudsdale is the only place they have a big enough work force to do so.

I have a feeling Las Pegasus would be a fairly happening place. Casinos on both ground level and in the sky, maybe a couple of race tracks, and plenty of musical venues.

How's this for a theory btw?

Only E Ps can grow plants. They dig a hole, bury the seed, then water it. Then it shoots up instantly, fully grown and ready to harvest. Any other tribe tries this, jack shit will happen.

However...that's only half the operation. From then on, it has to be tended to like normal, which means water and day light are needed. So, all three tribes are bound together. Without one, they're doomed.

well i don't think they grow trees INSTANTLY..faster then normal yeah, but the Zap Apple trees were special that way.

But now that Tia and Luna are around, unicorns have pretty much lost their place in the balance.

If any race could be wiped out without the other two suffering society destroying reprocussions at this point, it'd be them.

Not that the Princesses would ever let that happen.

@Applelight: Comments on the show indicate that normal plants can't be grown instantly, but it looks like earth ponies make plants grow faster than they would IRL and they can't grow at all without earth pony assistance. For those who think that this seems weird *cough*pegasusweathermanagement*cough*, *cough*unicornsunandmooncontrol*cough*.

EDIT: Ninja'd and Ginger makes a good point. The earth ponies and pegasi don't need the unicorns anymore, unlike in the past. However, unicorn magic is probably still useful to others despite no longer being necessary.
