Scootaloo should compete too. Though actually, I can't immagine it being possible to keep the CMC away from a talent show.

Sweetie Belle would actually nail the "cute little girl with the singing talent of a veteran opera singer" quotient. Scootaloo and Apple Bloom would be one of those "cute kid" acts that has no chance of winning, but still goes really far because everyone would feel bad about voting them off.

There could be a montage of auditions, some good some bad, featuring background ponies and minor characters. Vinyl is one of the 'good' ones...Derpy is one of the bad ones.

The CMC actually begin performing the CORRECT version of the CMC theme, and it's shaping up to be the best audition there.

... then Trixie uses her magic to slam down all of the judges rejection buzzers at once. forcing the performance to stop. Everyone (including the audience) visciously chastises Trixie for it, and urge the girls to go on, but the girls are too upset and shaken up to continue so they leave.

It'd pretty much serve as the fic's darkest hour.

Just an idea

Except...Trixie has no reason to do that. She's probably never met the CMC before. She's a jerk, but she wouldn't have any reason to randomly buzz a couple of children that she doesn't know.

I was just thinking of a way to show that Trixie was being an asshole, and making it clear that she can't stand genuinely good performances because they make her look bad.

Maybe she could hire DT to ruin the performance for them? If the CMC get to a later round.

I don't know if Trixie would interfere with a musical performance though, since it doesn't really overlap with the stuff she prides herself on.

I'm fine with Trixie being villainous, but I prefer her as entertainingly bitchy and petty, not pointlessly mean. Plus I'd hope she'd be smart enough to see that shooting down a bunch of adorable kids only serves to make her look bad.

Hence why I got to thinking. What if Trixie started the talent show just to find the most talented people in Equestria and meticulously ruin their reputations so that she'd look better by comparison?

So after the initial auditions, she could hire someone (maybe Diamond Tiara) and have her sabotage the acts so that they'd end up making fools of themselves one after another and get voted off. (after recieving a brutal verbal beatdown from her of course)
