@Perpetual: It was more that some people were ruffled by the whole "forcing the pets to go through the gorge" thing, and there were some arguments about whether or not she was a jerk to require it. Then MMDW came along and everybody in that camp went "SEE? She's totally a self-centered jerk!" I do think that MMDW definitely handled her character badly, but I think the backlash wouldn't have been nearly as bad if the episodes had had more time in between for all the "Is Dash a bitch?" discussion to cool down a bit. As it was, we got two consecutive episodes where her actions were less than stellar, and an episode showing her good side didn't come up until the end of the season.

She also has some justification to her pride. Also, RD showed caring in Cider Squeezy as well.

The best I can think of is that, as said before, a few Rainbow Dash Jerkass episodes were piled together rather than inbetween some more likeable ones, causing a bit of fear with fans.

Also, Rainbow Dash is a bit of a Commander Contrarian, meaning the show hits her on the head with her Aesops a bit more than the others, MMDW I think was a bit controversial since it overlooked the 'it takes two to start an argument' lesson often used in other episodes, and makes Rainbow completely in the wrong and everyone else right, which depending on who you ask was completely accurate or totally wrong and unfair.

This is kinda why I think a Jerkass Has a Point episode where she ends up showing the others An Aesop may work and blow off any insinuations that Rainbow is a hopeless jerk or that the others condescend to her because of it.

That said even before Hurricane Fluttershy, I think The Last Roundup showed her in a rather benevolent light, if still rather abrasive (which is really the best way to give RD a Smart Ball).

Indeed. The back to back episodes essentially caused a massive backlash against Dash, and as well as equally massive counter-backlash that was still being felt for months.

I guess if there was anything wrong with RD's characterization in MMDW is that it was trying to hard to make her seem to be the worst party that we should root against despite the rest of the Mane Six's behavior.

Yeah, that whole episode had problems, not just with RD. Williams proved that it was more or less a beginner's fumble, though, with her other two episodes, so she's still good in my book.

Also, sorry if I'm being incredibly argumentative tonight. I just really needed the debate to blow off steam after that FOE chapter.

I just leanred that Casper is actually a long running character dating from the 40s. And I always thought it was just one cgi movie a long time ago.

Oh man, some of those early Casper shorts were depressing as hell. It kinda came with the territory of the main character being a ghost.

Who, Casper the Friendly Ghost? I remember a whole of his Harveytoon cartoons.
