I just got to chapter 7, and I think it is getting better. Especially the parts with O Cs.

Huh. Just watched a film called Hugo. Apart from the trailers bacically lieing about what ther film was, It was entertaining. I suspect it would be better if I know a little more about old silent films though.

Yeah, it's annoying when the trailers sell it as something completely different than it is, like they're afraid people won't see it for what it is.

I'll have to re-watch that movie... I admit I didn't particularly like it when I saw it.

Regarding first games, I think my first game ever was Oregon Trail 1.2

I thought Hugo was aright... What I mostly didn't like was how it started Urban Fantasy and shifted into Historical Fiction. Each half makes the other seem almost nonsensically out of place.

Each half was good, they just didn't mesh together well.

I'm not sure exactly what my first game was. It could be anything from Crash Bandicoot to Dungeon Keeper. The first game I played more than a small mess around though I think was this game called Nerf Arena Blast. (Think Unreal Tournament for kids)

[up]What was fantasy about the setting? It always seemed like a real life setting to me...

There wasn't any fantasy at all, which is somewhat jarring because that's what a lot of the trailers seemed to imply. I might've appreciated it better if I went in knowing that.

I'm aware the Max Payne film adaptation had this problem. Blimey, how do you screw that up? It's already a game that's trying to be a movie!

My first game was Mickey Mouse for the SNES.

Awesome. He killed things by throwing marbles at them.

Talking about video games? I'm playing Pony Fantasy 6 for the first time. Colin, even though he claims to have "played the hell" out of the original, is utterly confused of the changes.tongue
Yeah, Andromeda is heading for you. You got over 9000 years until it collides.

urban fantasy. That's something with fantastic elements in an urban setting. The setting itself was very urban, and for the first half of the movie they build up this special automata with a special heart-shaped key, and it's supposed to do soemthing amazing... that's the fantasy part.

Then it turns out that the automata lead to something really mundane, and the whole thing shifted into Historical Fiction. It was just... weird.

Actually, nothing fantastical about that at all. Automatons are real things and they were around back then.

Though I think I do get your overall point.

Hugo? Oh, I remember that trailer. It seemed like it wanted to be Harry Potter.

Ffft and is it nothing like that at all.

Also, watching the trailer for Alan Wake's American Nightmare. Blimey this villain is one major ham.

This has nothing to do with anything but last night I was watching Inspector Gadget and happned upon this scene. Apparently Penny's teacher is named Ms. Block-and-tackle. And listen to the way she says "300." Plus the open mouth stare of that one kid on the right. I swear it's like a meme goldmine!

Chapter 13 up on the liveblog.

This one annoyed me a good bit, so I didn't really feel like continuing. I'll pick it back up again tomorrow.

@Pannic: Huh, Automata really existed? Didn't know that. Still, the abrupt tonal shift remains intact.

@ginger: Well you ARE reading it, so...

@Bad but the author obviously expected this to be entertaining though, right?

@ Lurker, well given just what you know so far, yewah those are valid criticisms of the past, and can't really say anything about them without spoilers, just keep reading and find out, right now you only have a small fraction of the needed info.
